Okres Turčianske Teplice: Water, Culture and Cycling Routes
Water, Culture and Routes in Okres Turčianske Teplice
Okres Turčianske Teplice combines a diverse range of water activities, important cultural monuments and routes through the Turiec Basin. The Spa&Aquapark has six indoor swimming pools available. The outdoor area of the aquapark has two more pools. This allows you to complement your stay with a clearly defined water experience, while the surrounding area offers further opportunities for culture, hiking and cycling.
A prominent point of reference is the central spa park. It covers 12 ha and is classified as a cultural monument. If you want to understand your stay not only through individual sights but also through the character of the place, this park is one of the destination’s distinctive aspects.
Cultural Monuments and Museums
The birthplace of Mikuláš Galanda is a national cultural monument. Modrý kúpeľ, now also called Zlatý kúpeľ or Royal Bath, is a cultural monument.
The Ján Kollár Museum is located at the original site of Ján Kollár’s birthplace. It is accessible to visitors by prior arrangement. The exhibition traces the poet’s life from his birth through his studies to his work as a priest. It therefore offers more than simply a place name: it provides a thematic insight into one individual and his life story.
In Mošovce, the Museum of Crafts is housed in the Révay family mausoleum, built in 1861. It displays tools used in the historic crafts practised in the municipality. Another cultural point of reference is the Mošovský jarmok, a traditional fair.
Hiking and Cycling from Different Starting Points
Hiking trails lead from Turčianske Teplice to Vyšehrad. For a more cycling-oriented exploration, a cycling route leads through the forest from Budiš onwards to Štyri chotáre. The forests around Budiš are frequently visited in summer and autumn because of the abundance of mushrooms. Access to the Vajcovka spring in Budiš is free for the public; there is a shelter above the spring.
The routes mentioned also reflect different landscape settings. The Znievska cycling route begins on Hájska Street near the stop of the Turčianske Teplice, aut. st. cycle bus. It runs through the western part of the Turiec Basin below the Lúčanská Malá Fatra and leads from Turčianske Teplice to Martin. The Turčianska cycling route runs via Mošovce, Turčianske Teplice and Horná Štubňa; between Turčianske Teplice and Horná Štubňa, it is almost flat.
The educational trail is accessible year-round and can also be used by bicycle. For practical orientation, the Turčianske Teplice Tourist Information Centre provides information about attractions and transport connections. This allows you to pay closer attention when choosing your accommodation to which of the local and route-related aspects mentioned should be the focus of your stay.
