Mošovce: Alleys, Museums and a Manor House
Accommodation in Mošovce
There are several themes to explore on a trip to Mošovce: protected green spaces, the life story of Ján Kollár, local crafts and architecture. There is also an outdoor swimming pool fed by thermal springs and an educational trail. This gives you the flexibility to balance nature, culture and relaxation in your plans.
Protected alleys and green spaces
The Mošovské aleje have been designated a protected natural monument since 1969; the protection designation was revised in 1995. The Mošovské aleje protected area covers the local park, several avenues along the roads and some wooded areas around Mošovce. It covers 273 hectares. The protected area therefore extends beyond individual rows of trees: the described landscape also includes the park and nearby wooded areas. If you would also like to explore nature during your trip, this connected protected area offers a perspective of its own alongside the cultural attractions.
Ján Kollár and the crafts of Mošovce
The Múzeum Jána Kollára is located on the original site of his birthplace. The exhibition covers Kollár’s life from his birth and studies through to his work as a pastor in Lobeda, Germany. It begins in the original granary, which lends the exhibition a distinctive setting. The biographical story spans several stages of his life and continues through his work in Lobeda.
The Múzeum mošovských remesiel focuses on something different: it presents the traditional crafts of Mošovce through tools and finished products. The two museums thus offer distinct cultural themes. One centres on an individual life story; the other explores the variety of local crafts, illustrated by tools and products. If you are interested in cultural history, you can consider these biographical and craft perspectives separately when choosing what to visit.
Manor house, mausoleum and outdoor pool
The Révay Rococo-classical manor house in Mošovce was built in the second half of the 18th century. The Múzeum mošovských remesiel, by contrast, is housed in the Révay family mausoleum, built in 1861. Their construction dates mark a clear historical contrast: the manor house dates from the second half of the 18th century, while the mausoleum dates from the 19th century. A cultural history visit therefore offers different architectural points of interest rather than buildings from a single period.
An outdoor swimming pool on the Mošovský potok uses thermal springs. The pool adds a focus on relaxation to the cultural and architectural attractions. As it operates seasonally, check its opening dates before your planned visit.
Educational trail: route and current planning
An educational trail was established in Mošovce in June 2010. At the time, the circular route passed through the village to the outdoor swimming pool, Báronov hrob and the Rybníky ponds, with the Jack farm and horses; it then continued to Čerňákovo, through the park and to the manor house. It ended in the square in front of the municipal office. At the time, the trail could be completed on foot or by bicycle. Its historical route description therefore connects several of the attractions mentioned above and can be understood as a former circular route. If you would like to follow the route today, first check whether the trail is currently available.
