Discover Budiš

Budiš is located in the southwestern part of the Turčianska kotlina basin at the foot of the Žiar Mountains, in the spring area of the Jasenica stream. The municipality is predominantly forested and hilly. At higher elevations, fir-beech forests and spruce forests shape the landscape. The landscape ranges from the spring area through hilly forested areas to higher forest zones. In addition, Budiš has three mineral springs situated along a tectonic fault. The village thus combines natural surroundings, springs and a distinctive local history.

Forest Landscape and Cycling Route near Budiš

One specific way to explore the surrounding area actively is the Žiar cycling circuit between Sklené and Budiš and back. The route is 36.5 kilometres long and classified as a moderately difficult sport MTB route. It heads towards Budiš, but turns onto a forest road before reaching the village and climbs to the Štyri chotáre locality. The climb to the Štyri chotáre locality forms the higher-elevation section of the circuit. The route therefore represents not only a distance but also a transition from the starting area into forested and higher-elevation areas.

Mineral Springs and Excursion Destinations

The springs are also included in the excursion programme of the Turčianske Teplice spas. This includes visiting and tasting the mineral springs in Dubovom and Budiš. From Turčianske Teplice, one mineral spring can be reached by car in approximately 13 minutes in the direction of Nitrianske Pravno; no public transport runs to this spring. The time stated is an approximate indication and not a general driving time for all springs in Budiš.

There is also a publicly accessible mineral spring west of Budiš. From the car park on the main road between Budiš and Jasenovo, it is approximately 100 metres to the spring.

Glassworks, Villas and Folk Architecture

Above Budiš, at the Na Hutách site, a glassworks producing glass objects was operated. Its activity lasted for more than a century and is probably dated to the period between 1750 and 1870. After the glassworks closed, representatives of the noble family concerned built three tourist villas there. These were later made accessible to tourist visitors from Budiš and the wider surrounding area. The history of Na Hutách thus leads from glass production to a later tourism-related context, without implying any statement about current opening or availability.

The village’s architectural heritage also includes an ensemble of folk architecture. It consists of single-storey, three-room log houses with gabled roofs and characteristic Podlomenica details. Those interested in local history will also find a connection to the volunteer fire brigade in Budiš: its history dates back to 1891.
