The cities in Slovakia offer the lovers of frequent change of places an opportunity to get new impressions from the trip round central Europe which is familiar only to those people who go on traditional tours to the Chech Republic and Hungary.
An overview of the cities of this or that country is admitted to begin from the capital. The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava nowadays is one of the newest central European tourist centers. By the way it managed to acquire this status only during the last 5-6 years. In the times of Czechoslovakia Bratislava had to be in the shadow of Prague which attracted lots of tourists and as a result took almost all income from them. A full-scale restoration of numerous architectural monuments in Bratislava was organized quiet recently. As a result today the historical center of Bratislava is one of the picturesque complexes of such a kind in the region. Practically all the Old City of Slovakian capital is an exclusively pedestrian zone with renewed and restored mansions of the epoch of Gabsburgs, steeples of the churches and a cozy narrowness of old streets.
Bratislava of course is not the only place which can be interesting for tourists in Slovakia. In fact, there are numerous such places. Symbolically the cities of the country can be divided into resort, museum and those ones which combine both qualities. We can refer well-known spa-resorts in Slovakia to the first group. They are situated near thermal springs: Trenchianske Teplice, Raecke Teplice, Bardeiovske Kupele. The cities – museums – Banske Bystrica, Zhilina, Trenchin Nitra attract people’s attention by entire range of antique castles, mansions and Roman-Catholic churches. The oldest city of the country Boinice is a resort and a museum at once. Beginning from the 16-th century people came here to get a treatment based on thermal springs. And here is situated one of the most beautiful castles in Slovakia.
Slovakia is opening more and more excursion tours nowadays. They offer tourists trips along not quiet a big picturesque settlements situated in different parts of the country. The most popular trip can be considered the one along the four cities: Kezhmaroku, the Old Lubovne, Bardeiovu and Levoche. All these cities are situated in the region of a large administrative center of the country Preshov and are famous for the fact that in the epoch of the Middle Ages they were the center of Slovak State system. Each of them formerly had a title of “a free King city”. In each of them there’s a whole range of unique evidence of a former Golden Age: beginning from the highest in the world of Gothic altar (Levoch) to the monumental stone square (Bardeiov).
