When in Slovakia, near the High Tatras, one should certainly get into the glorious town of Stará Ľubovňa. The pride of these places is a lock that has been preserved since the times of the Middle Ages. The city itself was first mentioned in 1292 as a free royal city. Taking into account the fact that life was not always peaceful the first designation of the fortress was defensive. Since the early 15th century Stará Ľubovňa appeared to belong to the Polish authorities, and then the Lyubomirski family inherited it. The Zamorskie were the last who owned it and it was in 20-30’s of the last century.
Grandeur and severity of the cylindrical defensive towers and the ruins of a Gothic palace cause even a greater interest. They are the oldest representatives of Stará Ľubovňa and were reconstructed during the time of the Renaissance. One can enjoy the admiral view from the East Castle and Lower Tower.
Peeping directly inward one can see as the owners of the castle lived. The carved furniture, stuffed animals, unique interior - all these things will let you to look into the century-old events. Particular attention should be paid to the museum "Hrad Ľubovňa" that is opened on the territory of the castle. As a pleasant reminder of a visit to Stará Ľubovňa is a ticket-card. Then, accompanied by music of Baroque era one can be sent to an absorbing journey through the medieval courtyards.

Stará Ľubovňa has got a convenient geographical position and hence it is possible go on an excursion to Bardeevsky and Spišský Districts, Pieniny, Lyubovnyansky Hrad.
