Liptovská Štiavnica – Culture and Landscape in the Štiavničanka Valley

Liptovská Štiavnica lies in the valley of the Štiavničanka stream and combines a multifaceted local history with historic buildings and a blue-marked cycling route. If you are looking for a place for your Slovakia trip with an easy walk and a short, easy ascent, the Komornícka Valley leads to an easy walk on an asphalt or paved road; the ascent to Lúčny Hríb opens up views of the surrounding area. At the Nižňanský medokýš mineral spring, the view from the rest area extends to the Western Tatras, the Choč Mountains and part of the Malá Fatra.

Manor House, Church and Chapels

The younger manor house of Liptovská Štiavnica was built sometime in the 17th century in the late Renaissance style as a fortified, two-towered log castle. It was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1750 and expanded with two towers in 1880. Today, the building has four round corner towers. There is an important restriction to bear in mind when visiting: the manor house is privately owned and is not open to the public. You can only view it from the outside.

One of the municipality’s prominent buildings is the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Its architecture is modern; construction began in 1995, and it was consecrated in December 1999. Next to the church stands a wooden bell tower dating from 1933. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is also located on the main road, about 200 metres below the church. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands at the crossroads between Liptovská Štiavnica and Ludrová. The small building from the early 20th century combines Neo-Romanesque and Neoclassical elements.

Easy Trails and Historical Traces

The Lúčny Hríb hill was an important fortified settlement in the older Iron Age and during the Great Moravian period. Today, the ascent is short and easy and offers views of the surrounding area. This brings together archaeologically significant history and an uncomplicated viewpoint without requiring you to plan a long hike.

A blue-marked cycling route passes through Liptovská Štiavnica. For a more leisurely outing, the Komornícka Valley leads into the village and allows for an easy walk on an asphalt or paved road. The Nižňanský medokýš mineral spring is also a specific destination for finding your way around the area. From the village centre, signs first lead along an asphalt road and then along a footpath; the spring is about 100 metres from Chalúpkovo.

Spring and Mountain Panorama

The Nižňanský medokýš mineral spring lies in the protected zone of the Low Tatras National Park. From a rest area by the spring, there are views of the Western Tatras, the Choč Mountains and part of the Malá Fatra. You can therefore combine a short walk with a far-reaching landscape impression here. For winter activities, it is also possible in Liptovská Štiavnica to rent cross-country skiing equipment from ALGY SPORT and arrange a cross-country skiing instructor there.
