Liptovska Osada: Hiking, History and Wellness

Liptovska Osada combines nature experiences with local history and relaxation. The village lies in a valley between two national parks, including Veľká Fatra National Park. Hiking with views of Liptovská Osada

Liptovská Osada is a starting point for several hikes. The Žiar Viewpoint Trail leads from the centre to the lower part of the rocky massif of Mount Žiar. The viewpoints on Žiar offer views of Liptovská Osada. This allows you to get to know the village not only from the valley, but also from an elevated perspective. A green-marked hiking trail also leads from Liptovská Osada to Mount Malý Zvolen. Gothal Water World as a complement to nature

One of the village's special attractions is Gothal Water World. The complex includes a relaxation pool, a children's pool and a 25-metre swimming pool. The wellness area has three saunas, a relaxation room and a cold-water pool. This combination also makes the village appealing to travellers who want to include both nature experiences and relaxation in their travel plans. Depending on your personal interests, you can therefore combine the day with a trail on Žiar or in the direction of Malý Zvolen and round off your stay with the water and wellness areas.

Church, bells and the history of the village

The “Church of St John the Baptist” was built in 1762 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The church contains paintings by Vladimír Droppa. Three bells hang in the tower; the oldest dates from the 17th century and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. A former Hussite church in Liptovská Osada was originally the only Hussite church in Slovakia. The village's older history also includes the Benedictine hermitage from which Liptovská Osada developed. It was established around the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries and is mentioned as Gothal or “božie domčeky”.

Cycling route and Liptov cuisine

The CykloKorytnička follows the route of a former narrow-gauge forest railway. The cycling route crosses an old railway bridge to Liptovská Osada, connecting today's transport with a visible part of the region's former transport history. A monument dedicated to the Slovak National Uprising also stands in a small park on Lúžňanská Street. For a culinary break, Jánošíkova koliba at the southern end of Liptovská Osada offers specialities of Liptov cuisine.
