Hubová: Nature Trail, Culture and Cycling Routes in the Veľká Fatra

Hubová combines mountain scenery, regional history and peaceful ways of exploring. The municipality is located in the Veľká Fatra mountains and offers several different ways to discover the surrounding area, including the Hubovský okruh, historic cultural buildings and marked cycling routes.

Nature Trail with Natural-Science, Historical and Cultural Themes

The Hubovský okruh is an 11 km-long nature trail in the cadastral area of the municipality of Hubová. It was established in 2017 by the Turistický oddiel Tramp Hubová hiking club. Its content is broad in scope: the circular route provides information on natural-science, historical and cultural topics. The focus is therefore not only on the route itself, but also on the opportunity to connect the landscape with information about its natural and human-shaped surroundings.

Cultural Monuments and Traditional Architectural Forms

One of the notable cultural attractions in Hubová is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, “Kostol Povýšenia Svätého Kríža”. It is a national cultural monument and is decorated with wall paintings by Jozef Hanula from 1905. The Sýpky provide a different perspective on the region’s architectural history. They are two traditional folk grain stores dating from the late 19th century. The two-room log buildings stand on stone plinths and have gabled roofs covered with shingles, featuring a high podlomenica.

The Sýpky are located on the western edge of Hubová, on a slope below a wooded hill next to the main road. The “Hubovský okruh” nature trail and a yellow-marked hiking trail pass by the group of grain stores. This location makes the grain stores a clearly defined point of reference within the local network of paths and cultural landscape, without requiring several attractions to be combined into a single site.

Cycling and Trails in the Bystrá dolina Valley

For active exploration, three marked cycling routes with a total length of 15 km have been designated in the cadastral area of the municipality of Hubová. One individual route is the Černová–Bystrá dolina cycling route, which is 5.8 km long. In addition to the 5.8 km connection, the network therefore includes other marked routes in the cadastral area of Hubová. The Bystrá dolina valley also contains the ruins of an ironworks. They point to blacksmithing in this small valley and add evidence of the local history of work and technology to the landscape perspective.

Views and Orientation Above Hubová

The cemetery cross “Kríž na cintoríne” offers views of Veľký Smrekovec, Ostré, Havran, Kopa, Kečka, Kútnikov kopec, Hubová and Švošov. Another named station is “Zastavenie v Sedle Poľana”. It is located on mountain meadows above Hubová, by the “Sedlo Poľana” hiking signpost. This gives you a sense of place that encompasses not only individual buildings, but also named viewpoints, mountain meadows and trails.
