Ludrová: Crafts, Gorges and Landscapes in Lower Liptov

Ludrová combines a living craft tradition with striking landscapes and traces of cultural history. Highlights range from the Museum of Traditional Paper Making and the Medokýš mineral spring to paths through Hučiaky Gorge and the landscape around Mount Salatín.

Crafts and Churches as Special Places to Visit

The municipality of Ludrová established and operates the Museum of Traditional Paper Making. It continues the paper-making tradition of Lower Liptov and is housed in a wooden building. For visitors, its practical character is particularly important: at the museum, you can interactively try out the entire process of traditional paper making. This makes the site not merely an exhibition about a historic trade, but a place to visit where the production process itself is the focus.

The cultural surroundings also include the church in Kút. It belongs to the Liptov Museum and is open to the public. Another church stands on Stráňa Hill; a covered staircase leads to it. Thus, in Ludrová and its immediate surroundings, two different religious destinations are documented: a church belonging to the museum and an elevated place of worship with a clearly described access route.

Medokýš, Hučiaky and Salatín

The Medokýš mineral spring lies on the outskirts of Ludrová, in the Močilá locality, 50 metres from the built-up area. It can be reached via an asphalt road leading to the Museum of Traditional Paper Making.

For hikers, the trails to Hučiaky Gorge and through the Salatín landscape are of particular interest. The “Do tiesňavy Hučiaky” route begins and ends at the “Ludrová,,otočka” bus stop. The trail through the gorge leads from Ludrová into the Salatín National Nature Reserve and onward to Mount Salatín. The Salatín circular hiking route also crosses Hučiaky Gorge and climbs a solitary mountain offering beautiful views.

Further natural features complete this picture: Travertine formations can be found on Čerená Hill, while the Ludrovianka stream has numerous beautiful meanders. Access to Tatranský národný park is also mentioned near Ludrová. The remains of an important hillfort lie on Pancová Hill; its origins date back to the Bronze Age.

Cycling Route and Local Events

No marked cycling route passes directly through Ludrová. However, a blue-marked cycling route runs by the Kút Church of All Saints. It comes from Ružomberok and continues eastwards via Liptovská Štiavnica and Liptovské Sliače towards Partizánska Ľupča. This distinction is essential for travel planning: the village itself is not described as a section traversed by a marked cycling route, while a specific connection runs by the Kút Church.

Events also shape the village's cultural calendar. The “Beh Ludrovskou dolinou” run was held for the third time in 2026 and starts at the OŠK Ludrová football stadium. The traditional Ludrovská Bursa 2026 takes place in the cultural centre in Ludrová and includes singing and dancing.
