Nemšová – Town Museum, Observation Tower and Cycling Route

Nemšová offers different ways to experience Slovakia within a compact area: a town museum, historic religious and technical monuments, and trails through the landscape of the White Carpathians. There is also an observation tower with wide-ranging views and a designated cycling route from Trenčín to Nemšová. This makes it possible to combine culture, hiking and cycling without equating the individual places and their particular features.

Culture among museums, churches and technical monuments

The Nemšová Town Museum presents archaeological, historical, ethnographic, glassmaking and military exhibitions. It is accessible to visitors with disabilities, and admission is free. The museum thus provides an independent gateway to the history of the town and the region, complemented by several historic buildings and collections.

The manor house in Kľúčové was originally built as a late Renaissance building in the 17th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was remodelled in the Neoclassical style. Antonstál, by contrast, is a wooden hunting manor house from the late 19th century at the foot of the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area; today it offers visitors dining and accommodation services. The Králikov Mill in Nemšová is one of the oldest technical monuments in the region and has a 200-year history.

A prominent religious landmark is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Nemšová. The late Baroque church was built between 1762 and 1766. Its Baroque high altar dates from the first half of the 18th century. The church stands on the original site of a religious building already mentioned in 1332. This example brings the building’s history, furnishings and the long history of use of the same site together in one place.

Hiking, views and cycling

The educational and hiking trail runs from the Ľuborča district of Nemšová through the Ľuborčianska Valley to Trenčianska Závada. It lies in the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area and therefore passes through an expressly protected landscape. The Malý jelenec Observation Tower is also located in the Trenčianska Závada district. It can be reached on foot from Gazdovstvo Uhliská in approximately 20 minutes. The tower is 24.6 m high and accessible to pedestrians year-round.

From the Malý jelenec Observation Tower, you can see the White Carpathians, the Strážov Mountains, Považský Inovec and the rocks of Vršatec; in good visibility, the view also extends to Martinské hole. The view makes the tower a clear destination among the trails in Trenčianska Závada, while the educational and hiking trail allows visitors to experience the landscape as a longer connection.

Another hiking option is an 8.5 km circular trail in Nemšová. It has an elevation gain of 137 m, can be walked in both directions and is accessible to pedestrians year-round. Information boards along the trail provide additional information. Those who prefer travelling by bicycle can consider the 11.4 km Trenčín–Nemšová cycling route: it is part of the Vážska cycling highway and runs from Trenčín Castle through the pilgrimage site of Skalka nad Váhom to Nemšová.

The Trenčianska Závada district also contains an extensive area suitable for spending leisure time outdoors with animals and offering home-style cooking. This place therefore complements the historic sights, viewpoints and marked trails with an offering featuring animals and regional cuisine.
