Dubodiel lies at the northeastern foot of Považský Inovec and along the upper reaches of the Inovec stream. Its church, chapel and traditional dress give the village a cultural identity, while the surrounding area and Mount Inovec offer opportunities for cycling and hiking. When choosing accommodation for your trip to Slovakia, you can consider Dubodiel as a destination for cultural history and activities in the Inovec area. The key is whether this combination suits your travel interests.

Churches, Chapel and Local History

The parish church in Dubodiel is dedicated to the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, the Eucharist. The church is mentioned in writing in the urbarium of the Trenčín estate dating from 1623. The Lourdes Chapel in the village was built in 1904. It is designed in the Neo-Gothic style and features Romanesque elements—a combination of different stylistic influences in the history of local architecture.

The history of the hillfort is also part of the village’s cultural heritage: its remains and ramparts lie behind Dubodiel. Together with the churches, this archaeological heritage offers another way to explore the village’s past, without requiring a specific route.

Traditional Dress, Crafts and Theatre

Dubodiel’s traditional dress is distinguished by its simplicity and originality. It was made from homespun hemp and linen fabric, woollen cloth and sheepskin. This unchanged tradition has been preserved in the village to this day; some older women wear the traditional dress on feast days. Alongside its historic materials, it therefore remains part of present-day celebrations.

Dubodiel was also known for making straw mats. Amateur theatre is another expression of the village’s culture; it was founded in 1919. Historically, regular performances followed after 1923, including at carnival, Easter, the church feast and Christmas. While the traditional dress tradition continues to this day, these theatre performances belong to the village’s history.

Hiking and Cycling at Inovec

The ascent from Dubodiel is one of the routes to the summit of Inovec. The surrounding area offers cyclists various options on routes around the mountain. A challenging cycling route between Kálnica, Chata pod Inovcom and Dubodiel runs across meadows and forest tracks, offering beautiful views of the Považský Inovec mountain range. A blue cycling route descends along forest tracks above Dubodiel and ends at a junction with the Cyklomagistrála Okolo Inovca.

Nature watching and mushroom picking are also possible activities on trails across Inovec. Conditions for these activities may vary by season. When choosing between hiking and cycling routes, consider which differences best suit your interests and preferred level of activity: the ascent is a route to the summit, while the cycling routes described follow their own paths and offer their own landscape views.

Dubodielska kyselka Mineral Spring

The Dubodielska kyselka mineral spring is enclosed and developed with a concrete structure. Many visitors find its mineral water pleasant-tasting and unique. From the Trenčianske Jastrabie–Dubodiel road, the spring can be reached via a field track that crosses Zádvorie Hill. Check access and water quality on site before planning a visit; trail conditions may change.
