Sebedražie: Church, Golf and VODNÝ SVET

Sebedražie combines the landscape of Upper Nitra with a distinctive village church, a precisely measured golf course and the VODNÝ SVET recreation and leisure complex. The village lies in the centre of Upper Nitra at the northwestern foot of the Vtáčnik Mountains. The Ciglianka stream flows through Sebedražie. Here, landscape, local history and various leisure activities come together within a compact thematic area.

Landscape at the Vtáčnik Mountains

The municipal area is predominantly hilly and characterised by numerous alluvial fans. Geologically, it consists of Neogene strata containing coal seams. Those interested in the landscape of Upper Nitra will find a place where the proximity of the Vtáčnik Mountains and the geological features together contribute to an understanding of the region.

The Church of Saint Barbara and Local History

The most important landmark of Sebedražie is the Church of Saint Barbara. It was originally Gothic and is mentioned in the second half of the 15th century. A new façade dates from 1874. The history of the village goes back even further: the oldest written mention of Sebedražie dates from 1245. From 1350 onwards, Sebedražie belonged to the Sivý Kameň estate. Sebedražie also identifies Stavanie májov as a traditional local event.

Golf and VODNÝ SVET

For active days, Sebedražie offers a 9-hole golf course with a golf training centre. The course is 2,560 metres long and has a par of 35. Both independent play and undisturbed practice are possible on the course.

VODNÝ SVET offers a different focus: it is a recreation and leisure complex in Sebedražie. Visitors can fish there without a fishing licence. The complex also includes a crayfish farm with a school in nature. An open-air gallery displays original stone and wood works by prominent Slovak artists. There is also a documented culinary connection: at VODNÝ SVET, visitors can sample freshly baked trout.

Route and Mining Experience

The green route 5319 connects Prievidza at Nábrežie Jána Kalinčiaka with Sebedražie and is 8.3 kilometres long. It follows asphalted Class II roads that are also used by motor vehicles. For travel planning, the route therefore provides a clearly named connection between Prievidza and Sebedražie, while its length and road conditions remain specific points of reference.

The Upper Nitra region also includes the Horná Nitra Open-Air Mining Museum. There, visitors travel underground on a typical mine railway. The experience includes a 566-metre circular tour with expert commentary. Together with the coal seams in the municipal area, this museum points to the mining history of the wider landscape without equating the individual locations.
