Koš: Golf, Laskár Lakes and History

Koš combines a multifaceted local history with unusual leisure opportunities and a landscape shaped by water. Church History and Archaeological Traces

A prominent cultural and historical monument is the Gothic Chapel of St. Andrew, dating from 1410. Its history is closely connected with the former Church of St. Andrew in Koš: in 2000, the chapel was separated from it. On December 6, 2000, it was relocated approximately 1,700 meters from the original church site. These details make the chapel a special destination for anyone interested in sacred buildings and their local history. On the right side of the church, there is also an extension that recalls the sacred space of the old church and contains valuable furnishings from the former church.

The history of the area goes back even further. Koš was first settled in the Late Stone Age, the Eneolithic period, between 3,000 and 1,900 BC. A copper stone hammer found in Koš provides evidence of this settlement. At the Koš–Katkej kopec archaeological site, there are tar kilns broadly dated to the 9th to 11th centuries. Other settlement features at the site belong to a settlement dating from the 12th century to the middle of the 14th century; in total, 27 tar-production facilities have been documented at this site. The Stvacipalej kopec site is also part of the local history. It is located on a so-called Slavic burial mound, where settlement areas with economic structures have been identified.

Golf with Different Playing Ideas

Koš also has a sporting side. The golf facility includes a driving range open to the public. In addition, there is a publicly offered 9-hole course, which the municipality describes as the first golf course in the Trenčín Region. Anyone planning an active trip can take these opportunities into account when choosing where to stay without losing sight of the cultural side of the trip.

The golf facility also includes an equestrian center and the Golf from the Saddle program. Footgolf is open to the general public there. The facility therefore offers more than a classic round of golf and appeals to different interests. For trip planning, it is worth deciding in advance whether you primarily want to use the driving range, the 9-hole course, footgolf or the combination with equestrian sports.

Laskár Lakes and the Landscape of the Horná Nitra Basin

Another side of Koš can be seen at the bodies of water known as Koš or Laskár Koš. This name refers to a group of lakes in the Koš area near Laskár in the Prievidza District. The bodies of water were formed by ground subsidence and the flooding of former mining areas. Today, the Laskár Lakes form a natural habitat in the Horná Nitra Basin.

The area around the lakes is suitable for easy hikes and walks along the lake shores and wetlands. The Laskár Lakes also offer opportunities for birdwatching and fishing. Culture in the Village and Orientation for Your Trip

Theater also forms part of the history of Koš. Since 1919, a total of 126 plays have been performed. In 1919, the amateur actors from Koš first rehearsed and performed Kamenný chodníček by Ferko Urbánek. Together with the Chapel of St. Andrew and the archaeological sites, this creates a cultural profile that extends far beyond a single historic building.
