Bojnice: Castle, Zoo and Spa Tradition

Bojnice brings together cultural heritage, wildlife, spa tradition and cycling. The castle, with the travertine cave beneath it, is the cultural centrepiece; the National Zoo Bojnice offers a different perspective on wildlife, while Kúpele Bojnice, with its springs, represents a distinct thermal aspect. There is also Bencovje Grunt in the historic lanes and a cycling circuit that starts and ends in Bojnice. Bojnice Castle: History, Cave and Park

Bojnice Castle is one of Slovakia’s oldest and most significant monuments. The castle’s existence was first mentioned in writing in 1113. Beneath the castle is a natural travertine cave; a landscaped natural park surrounds the castle. The building, cave and landscaped park are therefore different aspects of this historic centrepiece.

The guided “Castle and Cave” tour lasts 75 to 90 minutes. The museum may adjust the duration, so check the current timings before your visit. This is a clearly defined cultural activity to include in your plans, although its duration is not fixed.

Wildlife and Educational Activities at the Zoo

The National Zoo Bojnice is open daily, including public holidays. Opening hours may change, so check them before travelling. More than 400 animal species live at the zoo; this number may change over time. At the “Detská ZOO,” children can see animals up close and even pet them. Bencovje Grunt and Pottery

Among the historic lanes of Bojnice, Bencovje Grunt is one of the last surviving traditional houses. The house contains an original medieval cellar made of tuff. This single historic house adds another scale to the view of Bojnice’s cultural heritage, distinct from the castle.

At Bencovje Grunt, visitors can work at the potter’s wheel and paint ceramic pieces. Alongside viewing historic architecture, creating something yourself is a key part of the experience here. Springs and Spa Tradition

Kúpele Bojnice uses nine springs with hydrocarbonate and calcium- and magnesium-rich water. Temperatures range from 28 to 52 °C. Cycling Circuit as an Active Option
