Radobica: Natural Environment, Educational Trail and Culture

Radobica combines a wooded mountain landscape with individual cultural sites and an educational trail. Places in and around Radobica include Hôrka and Hruštička parks, the Radobický náučný chodníček educational trail and the church in Radobica, as well as the chapel and water mill in Cerová.

Location between the Tríbeč and Vtáčnik mountain ranges

Radobica is located in the northeastern part of the Tríbeč mountain range, at the transition to the Vtáčnik mountain range. The village lies in a side valley of the Hornejský potok stream. The cadastral area of Radobica is situated in the Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Ponitrie). The landscape around the village is characterised by oak-hornbeam and beech forests; firs, spruces and pines are also found as admixtures. This gives you a clear picture of the landscape when planning your trip: Radobica is characterised by wooded slopes and a location in a mountainous region.

Parks and viewpoints

Hôrka Park is located on Hôrka Hill above the church in Radobica. It features a rest area with beautiful views of Radobica and the surrounding natural woodland. Another special feature is the five-metre-long attraction “Rebrík do neba”, or “Ladder to Heaven” in English. Hruštička Park is used for various leisure activities. A bicycle rack was also installed there in 2023.

A walk along the Radobický náučný chodníček

The “Radobický náučný chodníček” educational trail informs visitors about interesting places in Radobica and allows them to take walks through a pleasant mountain landscape. The trail includes newly built covered seating shelters. It therefore offers not only information about local sites, but also a clearly defined way to explore the village on foot.

The church, chapel and history of the water mill

The church “Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho” was built between 1949 and 1969, initially as a chapel. It was later enlarged and converted into a church by the local residents. It is the only cultural monument in Radobica. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the courtyard in front of the church. There is also a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Cerová. It is located 2.5 km from Radobica and was built after 1945 by local resident Ján Tomáš out of gratitude for his return from Italian captivity during the Second World War.

The water mill in Cerová is also part of the village’s history. It was built in 1820 for the entire municipality of Radobica. During a reconstruction, it was fitted with a modern Francis turbine and new grain-processing machinery; the turbine was manufactured in the Czech Republic. The stone foundations of the former water mill and the remains of the watercourse are visible along the road to Cerová. The cultural and landscape area around Radobica can thus be experienced through several individual sites: the church, chapel, mill and wooded surroundings.
