Zlaté Moravce – Culture Between Rivers and Landscapes

Zlaté Moravce lies at the confluence of the Žitava and the Hostiansky potok (Zlatnianka). At the same time, the town is located at the transition between the Tribeč Mountains, Pohronský Inovec and the Podunajská nížina lowlands. Landscape and Townscape

The combination of rivers, mountains and lowlands gives Zlaté Moravce a distinct geographical character. Part of the former manor house park has been preserved and is now used as the Zlaté Moravce Town Park. This means that a historic landscape is also part of the townscape, with its present-day name referring to its former function. This contrast is particularly interesting when planning a trip, because in Zlaté Moravce the natural environment and local history are not separate subjects.

The Migazzi Manor House as a Cultural Focus

The Migazzi Manor House is a Baroque-Classical building that was remodeled in 1789. On 2 October 1963, it was added to the list of national cultural monuments of the Slovak Republic. In the manor house, a modern historical installation covering approximately 100 m² is dedicated to the Migazzi noble family. The exhibition includes video projections, audio guides and a projection screen. A preserved stone fountain from the Migazzi Manor House can be displayed without major alterations and complements the historical presentation with a specific architectural detail.

The Migazzi Manor House is also connected with the Town Cultural Centre. Throughout the year, it offers theatre performances, concerts, lectures, exhibitions, courses and other events. You can therefore shape your stay around culture in different ways: the historical content is complemented by a programme encompassing several forms of art and education.

Museum, Churches and Historical Testimonies

The museum in Zlaté Moravce is a local history museum that focuses primarily on the upper Požitavie region. The exhibition “The Commemoration of Janko Kráľ” provides another thematic focus. It gives a brief overview of his life, his poetic work and his participation in the revolutionary years of 1848–1849.

The history of religious buildings and monuments is also multifaceted. The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel was consecrated on 29 September 1785 following a complete reconstruction. The Zlatomoravecká Golgotha is a sandstone crucifixion group from 1848 on Andrej Hlinka Square. The Zlatomoravecká Calvary (Trojica) stands on the site of a Romanesque church from the 13th century. In addition, the Zlatomoravecká Calvary is included in the list of national cultural monuments of the Slovak Republic declared in 2018.

Events, Cinema and Sports

In addition to the Town Cultural Centre, Tekov Cinema offers another cultural option. It has a long tradition of film screenings in Zlaté Moravce and shows film premieres. For a more active addition, the sports complex includes five tennis courts and a 400-metre cinder track.
