Goldmorawitz (Zlaté Moravce): Museum, Educational Trail and Landscape

Goldmorawitz, Slovak Zlaté Moravce, combines a distinctive landscape setting with regional history and various opportunities for culture, exercise and leisure. The town lies at the confluence of the Žitava and the Hostiansky potok, also known as Zlatnianka. At the same time, it is situated at the transition between three significant geological and geomorphological units: the Tribeč, the Pohronský Inovec and the Pannonian Basin, represented here by the Danubian Lowland. Thus, in Zlaté Moravce, a river landscape, upland ranges and the influence of the lowlands come together.

Between Rivers and Landscapes

A specific starting point for exploring the town is the Zlaté Moravce educational trail. It leads from the bus station through the town centre to Kalvária, with St. Anne's Chapel. The trail is 6 kilometres long and takes around 2.5 hours. Along the route, there are 13 stations as well as an introductory information board. The educational trail is self-guided, linear, accessible in both directions and available year-round as a walking route. For planning your day, it is therefore clear that this is not a circular route, but a designated connection between the bus station, the centre and Kalvária.

The preserved part of the former manor house park is also part of the townscape. Today, it is used as a city park for relaxation. There is also a bicycle parking facility on the banks of the Žitava. The area around Zlaté Moravce offers good conditions for cycle tourism; the local tourist association organises hiking and cycling tours almost all year round.

Manor House, Museum and Memorial Sites

The museum in Zlaté Moravce is a regional history museum focusing on the upper Požitavie region. It is housed in the Baroque Migazzi Manor House. The building was added to the list of National Cultural Monuments of the Slovak Republic on 2 October 1963. In the courtyard of the manor house, a preserved stone well structure is also presented as a historical feature of Zlaté Moravce.

The permanent exhibition The Migazzi Family was opened to visitors and presents the history of the Migazzi noble family. It includes a tea salon installation with objects that belonged to and were used by members of the Migazzi family. Another exhibition area is the Paluškov family salon, with Baroque inlaid furniture from the 18th century. Thus, the exhibition focuses not only on the names of the families, but also on specific rooms, furniture and objects.

The Janko Kráľ Memorial House is also part of the historic townscape. It was built in the first half of the 19th century; the poet Janko Kráľ lived there from 1862 until his death. The Migazzi family mausoleum was built in 1887 in the Neo-Romanesque style. It contains black marble sarcophagi and is listed in the central register of cultural monuments. The Classicist Church of St. Michael the Archangel dates from 1785 and was remodelled in 1823.

Leisure Activities in Different Seasons

On warm days, Zlaté Moravce has an outdoor summer swimming pool with a 50-metre swimming pool and two small children's pools. During the season, the winter stadium on Továrenská Street is also open; it is used for recreational skating and ice hockey games. TJ Sokol offers a different sporting focus with organised individual sport climbing on an artificial climbing wall. Climbing competitions for the Slovak Cup and the Slovak Junior Championships are organised there every year.
