Topoltsany combines a distinctive historic town centre with independent cultural venues and destinations in the surrounding area. Historic Squares and Protected Urban Areas

At the centre of Topoľčany’s distinctive square with its four-sided layout stands the late Baroque Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The historic square Námestie M. R. Štefánika is another named point of reference in the town. One side of the square is adorned by Topoľčany’s Secessionist town hall.

Stummerova ulica, with the grounds of the old hospital, was designated a protected heritage zone in 2020. The historic layout and architectural and decorative-art details have largely been preserved there. The Meštianska vila complements this historic townscape as a Secessionist architectural landmark; its exterior can be visited.

Museum, Jewish History and Contemporary Culture

The Tribečské múzeum v Topoľčanoch is housed in a former Austro-Hungarian district court building from the late 19th century. The building was declared a national cultural monument in 2014. The museum specialises in documenting the history of hop growing, malting and brewing in Slovakia. It also presents more than 90,200 collection items from the natural and social sciences to the public.

Since 28 October 2010, the permanent exhibition “Z dejín židovskej komunity v Topoľčanoch” has been located in the Jewish cemetery. It comprises 15 thematic sections. In addition to the town hall, the Galéria mesta Topoľčany organises exhibitions, concerts, openings and lectures. Nástupište 1-12 provides a different cultural accent: the 300-metre-long, fully operational multimedia space for contemporary culture is located in the underpass beneath Topoltsany’s bus station and provides space for artistic projects and artist residencies.

Cycling and Excursions in the Surrounding Area

The second stage of the main cycling route from Topoľčany is available for a short, clearly described cycling tour. It is 6.818 kilometres long, runs along the Nitra’s flood protection embankment and forms part of the Ponitrianska cycling magistrale. The route is separated from motor traffic along its entire length. The exception is a 410.6-metre section on an access road, which is marked with a pictogram. This precise route description makes the section particularly easy to understand if you would like to plan cycling as an independent part of your stay.

In the surroundings of Topoľčany, Topoľčiansky Castle is located in Podhradie. It offers views over Ponitrie; reconstructed rooms with an amphitheatre are located in the upper castle. The grounds of a reservoir in the surrounding area also invite visitors to go fishing, boating and walking in nature. Alongside the cultural venues in the town centre, this provides a choice of destinations with different focal points.

The tourist information office in Topoľčany sells tourist maps and brochures and determines or arranges transport connections to nearby destinations. This is helpful if you would like to combine urban culture with destinations outside the town without having to follow a specific route.

The season at Krytá plaváreň Topoľčany runs from September to June. Admission tickets can be purchased at the ticket office during public opening hours. The indoor swimming pool thus complements the cultural and scenic attractions with a seasonally defined option for spending time in the town.
