Krušovce: Manor House, Church and Parkland

Krušovce unfolds through an interplay of its manor house, church, historic parkland and traditional local customs. Manor House and Parklands

A historic landmark is Kaštieľ Krušovce, a two-storey Neoclassical manor house. It was built in 1830 on older foundations by Count František Beréni and remodelled into its present form in 1906. Its construction history thus combines an older foundation, the period of its Neoclassical origins and a later change to its appearance.

The historic surroundings include a park in Krušovce covering an area of 6.23 hectares. It is listed as a national cultural monument under registration number 11248/1-7. Also relevant for getting your bearings in the area is Park pri kaštieli: together with Kaštieľ Krušovce, it forms a harmonious landscape ensemble and covers 6.50 hectares. Its development extends from a Baroque French garden laid out in the mid-18th century to its expansion into an English landscape park at the beginning of the 19th century.

The internal layout of Park pri kaštieli makes the landscape varied and easy to describe. A path divides it into two large sections. The southwest is dominated by exotic trees and shrubs among smaller meadow areas, while native trees and shrubs and two larger meadow areas predominate in the northeast. The historic park also has a recreation zone with a multifunctional sports court, a running track and a long-jump facility. The park's features therefore range from designed landscapes and tree and shrub stands to clearly designated areas for recreation and exercise.

Church and Local Culture

A second notable site is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It was built around 1240 in the Romanesque style; its earliest written mention dates from 1285. Remains of the former fortifications are preserved at the church, indicating the building's defensive function. At the same time, it serves as the parish church of the local parish. Those who view Krušovce through the lens of its history will therefore find both an early religious building and architectural traces of its former protective function here.

The local cultural history also includes the making of crocheted blankets from white or coloured yarn, which was characteristic of Krušovce. More recent local events are also associated with specific dates: on 30 April 2025, a decorated maypole was erected in front of the cultural centre in Krušovce; the event was connected with this traditional custom. On 12 and 13 September 2020, the Hodové slávnosti festival took place in Krušovce. These dates form part of the town's past history and should not be understood as a current events calendar.

Transport and Activities in the Local Area

Krušovce is connected to road I/64, which serves as the municipality's main north–south transport route. The single-track, partly electrified railway line No. 140 from Nové Zámky via Šurany, Nitra, Lužianky and Topoľčany to Prievidza also runs through the town. The line has a track gauge of 1,435 mm and is 113 km long. The town's main documented transport connections are therefore clearly identified for both road and rail travel.

Several kilometres of walking routes are available within the cadastral territory of Krušovce.
