Štefanovičová between the Plain and Regional History

Štefanovičová lies in the southeastern part of the Nitrianska pahorkatina upland and at the same time in a plain. For travellers who want to consider not only a name but also the character of a place when choosing accommodation, the municipality combines geographical orientation with an unusually multifaceted local history. A practical connection is provided by regional bus route 403 420 on the Nitra–Štefanovičová–Rastislavice route. Local History from Dolný Taraň to Štefanovičová

An important historical reference point is Dolný Taraň, which was first mentioned under this name in 1269. The municipality of Taraň was established in 1935 by merging the Dolný Taraň and Horný Taraň manors. This means that the development of the place can also be understood through earlier farmstead and settlement structures, without equating the historical names with the current name of the municipality.

In the 18th century, the Grassalkovich family founded a settlement in the area where sheep were kept. From 1910, the Šuriansky cukrovar leased both Taraň estates. Several buildings of former manors displaying features of lowland architecture have also been preserved in Štefanovičová. The reference to their former use remains important: these are former manors, not a statement about their present-day function.

Chapel, Memorials and Preserved Traces

Among the notable cultural monuments is the chapel in Štefanovičová dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1916 by Russian prisoners of war. The chapel can be an interesting stop for cyclists. A statue of the missionaries Sts Cyril and Methodius also stands on the border of Štefanovičová in the direction of Branč. Both places preserve specific links to the history and religious culture of the municipality, without this implying any particular route or current programme of events.

The Tvrdošovský potok, formerly called Taráňsky potok, flows through Štefanovičová. Here too, the present and former names should be considered separately. Elements of the former railway have also been preserved in the municipality. The former school building is located in the centre. Together with the former manors, these traces show how varied the visible historical points of reference are in the locality.

Cultural Events with a Historical Connection

In 2024, the theatre tradition in Štefanovičová was revived. The carnival processions in Štefanovičová were also revitalised in 2024. Both statements refer to 2024 and should therefore be understood as historical developments, not as evidence of a current events calendar or a future date. Those who choose the locality will thus find, alongside architectural and landscape traces, indications of cultural activities in the recent past.
