Discover Brzotín: Karst, Manor House and Views
Accommodation in Brzotín
Brzotín combines distinctive landscapes with historic buildings and views of the Slaná River canyon. Its cadastral area extends across the Rožňavská kotlina basin and the Slovenský kras. This creates a village landscape where karst scenery, a nature reserve, a cycling route and cultural monuments reveal themselves in a variety of forms.
Between Rožňavská kotlina and Slovenský kras
The landscape around Brzotín belongs to two important geomorphological units: Rožňavská kotlina and Slovenský kras. In Slovenský kras, the Brzotínske rybníky are among the largest still waters in the area by surface area. They add another clearly defined natural feature to the landscape, without Brzotín being limited to a single type of scenery. The ruins of Hrad Brzotín lie on the wooded slope of the Silická planina rock massif. The site is located in the NPR Brzotínske skaly nature reserve on the right bank of the Slaná River; a visible moat remains from the castle. Brzotínska skala is also part of the NPR Brzotínske skaly National Nature Reserve, established in 1984. The viewpoint at Brzotínska skala has been accessible to tourists since 2017. From there, the view extends southwest into the dramatic canyon of the Slaná River.Cycling Route and Nature Experience
A blue cycling tourism route runs through Brzotín. Along this blue route, you can explore the surrounding natural and cultural attractions by bicycle; the viewpoint at Brzotínska skala, meanwhile, opens up views of the dramatic canyon of the Slaná River.Manor Houses and Historic Buildings
The Mariášiovcov Manor House stands in the centre of Brzotín and is also known as Biely kaštieľ or Máriássyho kaštieľ. It dates from 1837. The Mariášiovcov Manor House currently serves as the headquarters of the administration of Slovenský kras National Park. Remains of a historic park have been preserved in the courtyard area and supplemented with new plantings. The Baroque manor house in Brzotín was built around 1729. It is a two-storey, two-wing Baroque building with a distinctive central avant-corps, a balcony on the main façade and two side avant-corps. These architectural features give the building a clearly recognisable historic form, while the preserved park area at the Mariášiovcov Manor House provides an additional visible connection between the building and open space.Kostol sv. Anny
Another cultural monument is the Kostol sv. Anny church. It was built between 1798 and 1803 and is late Baroque in style. The main altar is a Louis XVI altar from the end of the 18th century and contains a new painting of Saint Anne from the 20th century. The church is in very good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.
