Dedinky – Nature Experiences between Geravy and Palcmanská Maša

Dedinky is a suitable place for you if you would like to combine nature experiences in the southern Slovak Paradise with water, cycling, hiking and individual cultural landmarks. For orientation around Dedinky, the extensive Geravy karst plateau and the Palcmanská Maša reservoir can be considered separately. At the same time, the Margecany–Červená Skala railway line runs through Dedinky, while the Hnilecká Cyklomagistrála and the hiking trail to Havrania skala start from Dedinky. Geravy and the Zejmarská Gorge

Geravy is an extensive, well-preserved karst plateau in the southern Slovak Paradise. Mountain meadows, clearings and small forest areas shape its character. The Dedinky–Geravy chairlift connects Dedinky with this plateau and offers views of the natural landscape of this part of the Slovak Paradise. For orientation purposes, this provides a clear connection between the village and the higher-lying landscape area.

The Zejmarská Gorge is located nearby and is designated as a national nature reserve. It is the only accessible gorge in the southern Slovak Paradise. The start of the gorge can be reached from the junction near the hotel in Dedinky via a red-marked trail in approximately 20 minutes. The time given is only an approximate indication; above all, what matters is the clearly described access via the marked trail.

Palcmanská Maša: Water, Swimming and Fishing

The Palcmanská Maša reservoir near Dedinky covers 86 hectares and forms a separate focus for travel planning. Swimming is possible at the reservoir. Fishing is also permitted, and the body of water is designated as a trout fishing area. Thus, alongside the karst landscape and gorges, a water-based stay is also a central attraction, with swimming and fishing appealing to different interests in the same location.

Cycling and Hiking from Dedinky

For longer cycling tours, the Hnilecká Cyklomagistrála offers a regional dimension. It is just under 70 kilometres long and passes through 11 municipalities. Its starting point is in Dedinky, with the second starting point in Margecany. Dedinky is therefore not only a destination for short excursions, but also a designated starting point for a longer cycling route.

Another option is the hiking trail to Havrania skala from Dedinky. This trail has no ladders or steps and is suitable for dogs. For travellers with a dog, or for you if you are looking for a hike without such trail sections, this is nevertheless a useful distinction.

Culture and Railway Line in the Village Landscape

A cultural landmark is also part of the village landscape: the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Dedinky is a Baroque-Classical church dating from 1835. In addition, the Margecany–Červená Skala railway line runs through Dedinky. It expands the geographical context of the village, without any information about timetables or current connections being inferred from this.
