Historical Traces from Toplucha to the Textile Manufactory

The history of the town can be traced back to 1267 in written sources: at that time, Teplička nad Váhom was recorded under the name Toplucha. The historical name Teplica is also part of the town’s history; it referred to hot springs. In 1757, Teplička nad Váhom was granted the right to hold fairs. Another important date is 1767: at that time, the town became the site of a textile manufactory. It primarily produced linen, cotton and wool textiles, as well as processing leather.

Castle and St. Martin’s Church

One of the notable cultural monuments is the castle of Teplička nad Váhom. It was originally built in the Renaissance style towards the end of the 16th century and is classified as a national cultural monument. A second historical landmark is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin, dating from 1589. Its Loreto Chapel has publicly housed the remains of Zofia Bosniakova since 1728. The castle and church thus represent different facets of the town’s history: the castle points to the architectural and political history of the early modern period, while St. Martin’s Church connects religious traditions with a specific historical date.

Fair Tradition and Regional Products

The Svätomartinský jarmok takes place annually in November at Námestie sv. Floriána in Teplička nad Váhom. Vendors of wooden, wicker, clay and ceramic goods were invited to demonstrate their products on site at this fair. Honey and honey products, gingerbread, cakes, sausages and other foods were also planned as market products. The fair therefore represents not only a date in the annual calendar, but also the connection between demonstrated craftsmanship and regionally characteristic market offerings.

The Straník launch site is also among the documented active offerings in the surrounding area.
