Senec: Lakes, Aquapark and City History

Senec combines a strong focus on its lakes with year-round water and family activities, historic buildings and distinctive natural features. Slnečné jazerá: Water Area and Activities

Slnečné jazerá have a water surface of almost 120 hectares. They include sunbathing lawns with gently sloping access to the water. On site, visitors can swim, enjoy water sports, go boating and fish. A rental service for pedal boats and paddleboards complements this selection. This means that a stay at the lakes can be arranged in different ways: Depending on personal interests, active activities on and around the lake are available in addition to spending time by the water. In summer, the Senec Express tourist train connects Slnečné jazerá with Senec city centre. Its route runs 7.3 kilometres around the lakes; both the starting point and the terminus are on Senec's main square. The train thus provides its own way of orienting yourself between the lake area and the centre, without making the two areas feel the same: At the lakes, the water experience takes centre stage, while the centre is home to historic buildings and city history.

Aquapark and Practical Information

At Aquapark Senec, the Play Pool, Bubble Pool, Swimming Pool, Sunshine Pool and Relax Pool are open year-round. The covered Hrošík-Paula play area is also open year-round for families. These facilities add a covered, weather-independent area for experiences to a stay without replacing the lakes as a separate focal point. The nearest stop to Aquapark Senec is on Štefánikova Street; from there, it is approximately a five-minute walk. The Park & Ride car park in Senec is also available for travellers, city visitors and visitors to Slnečné jazerá. It is located near the railway station, regional bus stops, a Bike & Ride station and a stop for the free city bus. The Senec Tourist Information Centre provides recommendations for excursions and attractions in the surrounding area, as well as information about activities and events.

City History Between the Centre and the Lakes

One of the notable buildings is the Senec Synagogue, a prominent building in the city centre. Its present form was created through a renovation in 1904 in the Art Nouveau style with Oriental elements. Turecký dom is a Renaissance manor house built in the middle of the 16th century. Smaller historic sites also contribute to Senec's character. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity stands on the main road from Senec city centre to the lakes and was built in 1860 in the Classical style. The grounds of the Church of Saint Nicholas include Stations of the Cross, a Calvary group dating from 1934 and a Lourdes grotto. In front of the Esterházy Mansion stands the Marian or Plague Column, erected in 1747 in memory of the victims of a plague epidemic.

Nature and Local Events

Martinský les comprises oak stands that have survived in only a few places in Europe and is part of the Natura 2000 network. This protected natural area complements the water landscape of Slnečné jazerá and the historic destinations in the city area. Local events are also part of the documented character of the area. At the end of May, Senec hosts a goulash-cooking competition on the southern side of Slnečné jazerá. At the apple festival “Jablkové hodovanie”, visitors can sample apple dishes.
