Senec: Lakes, Aquapark and City History

Senec combines the expansive Slnečné jazerá lakes with a year-round aquapark and a history that can be discovered directly on the central square. This gives you a choice of different experiences: you can focus on the lakes with their water activities and beaches, or explore the city’s older history and nature at the Turecký dom.

The Slnečné jazerá as a defining landmark

The Slnečné jazerá cover a water surface of almost 120 hectares. Activities available at the lakes include swimming, water sports, boating and fishing. The grassy beaches, gently sloping access to the water and average water temperature of 25°C illustrate the character of this shoreline particularly well. If you are looking for a place with water-based experiences for your trip, you will find several options here within one interconnected lake area, without being limited to a single activity. In summer, the Senec Express tourist train makes it easier to get around. It connects the Slnečné jazerá with Senec city centre and runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at regular hourly intervals. The 7.3-kilometre route goes around the lakes; the starting point and terminus are on Senec’s main square. This connection is documented as a separate part of a summer stay and therefore differs from an individual walk or cycling tour.

Aquapark Senec: year-round water activities

Aquapark Senec is open and in operation year-round. Water from a borehole reaches 28–38°C and is available in six different pools. During the summer season, the number increases to as many as eleven pools. The facilities are complemented by a 25-metre swimming pool and the LAZY RIVER water attraction. This creates a clear distinction between the forms of water-based experience offered by the lake and the aquapark: the Slnečné jazerá stand for swimming, water sports, boating and fishing outdoors, while the aquapark combines pools at different temperatures, a swimming pool and the LAZY RIVER. The facilities mentioned are to be understood as separate places and experiences in Senec.

City history at the Turecký dom

The Renaissance manor house Turecký dom stands on Senec’s central square. Bratislava County Governor Krištof Baťán had it built between 1556 and 1560. Today, the building houses the Senec City Museum and the local tourist information office is also located there. The Turecký dom also presents a permanent exhibition on the nature and older history of Senec and its surroundings. Another traditional social and cultural event is Senecké leto. Since 1990, it has marked the opening of the summer tourism season at the Slnečné jazerá and takes place in mid-June on their southern shore.
