Kaplna between ecclesiastical architecture and historical traces

For visitors, Kaplna is primarily accessible through its architectural and local history as well as its marked routes. Its location on the E61 state road between Trnava and Senec provides a clear geographical reference for travel planning. Different layers of history come together in the town. Archaeological finds attest to a Neolithic settlement from the fifth millennium BC.

The historical connections exist on several levels: The wayside shrine bears the year 1568, and the Church of St. Elizabeth is considered an example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. It preserves an unplastered brick façade combined with light pink plaster. It is also a prominent landmark for orientation in the area. The building continues to serve the local Roman Catholic parish and a nearby Salesian centre.

Memorial room and places of remembrance

Another stop in the town’s history is the Kaplna memorial room. It contains historical furnishings that provide additional insight into the local past. In the public space, the Božie muky wayside shrine in front of the cemetery and on the main road in Kaplna also commemorates Turkish raids. It bears the year 1568. Cycling and hiking in Kaplna

For active exploration, there is the cycling route “2006 – Senec – Boldog – Čataj – Igram – Kaplna”. It is 12.50 km long and, within Kaplna, follows a side road along the football pitch. It then crosses road I/61 and leads back towards the municipal office.

There is a charging station for electric bicycles at COOP Jednota. Those who prefer to explore Kaplna on foot can also find a tourist hiking trail through the catchment area of the Kaplnský potok stream. This trail was made accessible in Kaplna, is marked and has been prepared for older visitors. The cycling route and hiking trail thus represent two different ways of experiencing the town and its surroundings.

Kaplna’s cultural programme includes Christmas markets selling traditional butcher’s specialities. Together with the church, memorial room and wayside shrine, this creates a townscape in which architectural history, remembrance and local tradition stand side by side.
