Cultural Monuments and Flat Cycling Routes in Vrakúň

Vrakúň combines remarkable cultural monuments with several flat cycling routes. Chateau, Park and Church

The protected monument ensemble “Kaštieľ a park” comprises the chateau commonly known as “Chateau Amadé” as well as the park component “torzo park pri kaštieli”. The entry bears the ÚZPF numbers 128/1–2. The chateau is probably a Louis-style building from the mid-18th century and was restored in 1904. Thus, this ensemble focuses both on its historical architectural language and on a specific restoration phase.

Another protected monument is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The late Baroque monument dates from the mid-18th century. The ensemble is registered under ÚZPF numbers 130/1–2; the statue itself bears number 130/2. At the entrance to the Roman Catholic church there is also a medieval pillory, which was used for punishment.

Today’s Roman Catholic church in Vrakúň is dedicated to Saint James. It was built in the second half of the 14th century, probably using elements of an older church from the Árpádian period. Its choir is polygonal and has a ribbed cross vault; the vault of the nave was rebuilt in the 18th century. These architectural elements make the church a place where several historical stages of development can be traced.

Folk Architecture and Rural Life

The Vrakúň folk house complements the stone monuments with a vivid example of regional everyday culture. It is a typical example of the farmsteads of the Žitný ostrov region and presents the folk architecture of the Danube region in southern Slovakia. As an exhibition of traditional peasant housing, it also documents life and living conditions in the village. The folk house is located at the house-number marker 25 and bears entry number 458 on the northern edge of the village, near a bend in Dvojrad road.

Three Cycling Routes with Different Profiles

For mountain bikes, the Malý vrakúnsky okruh is a 2,200-metre-long, flat route. It is also suitable for families with children. The marked Vrakúň–Mad cycling route is longer at 4,800 metres, is also flat, and is intended for all types of bicycles. It therefore differs primarily through its explicitly stated suitability for various bicycles.

The marked Vrakúň–Povoda cycling route is 4,700 metres long, flat and suitable for mountain bikes. It runs along the embankment of the S7 canal and over field paths. Depending on the type of bicycle and the desired character of the route, you can thus choose between a short, flat circuit, a route suitable for all types of bicycles, and a mountain-bike route with embankment and field-path sections.
