Malé Dvorníky – Cycling Routes, Chapels and Historic Sites

Malé Dvorníky combines two distinctly different cycling routes with sacred buildings, memorial sites and a prominent elevation. For planning a trip combining activity and local history, the village therefore offers several specific points of interest: the routes pass through various landscapes and types of paths, while Kápolnadomb, the churches and the Calvary shape the cultural character of the village.

Cycling routes with different sections

The cycling route from Dunajská Streda via Malé Dvorníky to Dunajský Klátov runs along a cycle path and a forest path. A second connection leads from Dunajská Streda via Malé Dvorníky, Veľké Dvorníky, Ohrady and Trhová Hradská to Topoľníky. On this route, a cycle path, forest path and asphalt road alternate. The different surfaces give the second route a different character from the connection to Dunajský Klátov and make the choice of route a specific decision for the cycling tour.

Kápolnadomb and the sacred sites

The elevation known as Kápolnadomb is an earthen rampart that still exists today and is considered a remnant of the ring. The municipal cemetery, a church and a chapel are located on it. The Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity is listed there as a local monument; it is not registered in the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund. In 1955, it was rebuilt as a single-nave church with a semicircular presbytery.

A Lourdes grotto is located in the cemetery near the church. It contains polychrome statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint Bernadette. In the center of Malé Dvorníky there is also a statue of Christ the King, erected in 1877. The Trinity Chapel was consecrated in 1735 in honor of the Holy Trinity by the then Bishop of Bratislava, Štefan Bakó. Of its original furnishings, only a Baroque image of the Holy Trinity, which formed part of the altar, has survived to this day.

Historical traces in the village

Other documented landmarks include the manor house on Malá ulica. It dates from the late 19th century and was restored in 2013. A main cross dating from 1730 stands in the cemetery. Together with the church, chapel and Lourdes grotto, it reveals a local history that can be read in several individual buildings and memorial markers, without being confined to a single historic site.

The Calvary consists of three crosses with the crucified figures on separate plinths shaped like stone hills. It was moved to the Malé Dvorníky branch before 1978 and remains there today. Also useful for orientation in the village is an unusual rest area with a reed roof, located in the immediate vicinity of the municipal office. Malé Dvorníky is also situated near the Klátov branch.

A recurring event

Every year on the first Sunday after Pentecost, the village festival takes place in Malé Dvorníky. In this way, a fixed annual event complements the village’s permanent cycling and cultural attractions.
