Discover Trhová Hradská

Trhová Hradská combines the river landscape of the Malý Dunaj with a remarkably dense collection of churches, monuments and historical traces. The Malý Dunaj flows through the village, while Klátovské rameno runs through its cadastral territory. There is also a marked cycle path, a nature reserve with protected habitats and a local history shaped by fairs, music and associations.

Natural environment at Klátovské rameno

Part of the cadastral territory of Trhová Hradská lies within the Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve. The reserve covers 306.4 hectares and protects floodplain forests, habitats of standing waters, as well as lowland and mountain meadows. Rare and protected species found there include the fire-bellied toad, otter, mute swan, grey heron, coot and white stork.

Different levels of protection apply to this natural area: the National Nature Reserve is subject to the fifth level of protection, while the 100-metre-wide buffer zone is subject to the third level. This classification is part of the character of the area and is just as important when considering the landscape as the waterways and the various habitats.

Cycle paths with clear route details

Trhová Hradská is located along two described sections of the cycle network. The 14-kilometre main route IX runs through Kútniky, Dunajský Klátov, Trhová Hradská, Horné Mýto and Ohrady Ostrov, also known as Kürti sziget. Those looking for a shorter, clearly defined route can take the marked cycle path IX/4, which connects Trhová Hradská with Horné Mýto at Klátovské rameno. The flat route is 2.1 kilometres long, has an asphalt-concrete surface and is suitable for all types of bicycles.

Churches, monuments and local history

The centre is dominated by the Church of St Anthony of Padua, set in a well-maintained church garden. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1757 and rebuilt again in 1905–1906. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Greek cross; the interior is designed in the Art Nouveau style, while the exterior elements are predominantly Neo-Romanesque. The church grounds also contain a Lourdes grotto. In front of the church stands a sandstone Pietà from 1883, while the church garden contains a Trinity Column dating from 1846.

Other small monuments are scattered along the roads and throughout the village. A wayside cross or roadside statue of St Florian by A. Brandl dates from 1873. Beside the road to Topoľníky stands a statue of St John of Nepomuk from 1739. The roadside statue of St Wendelin was created in 1863 and is classified as a preserved, well-maintained local monument. It stands at the junction on the main road towards Nyárasd, where the road to Nádszeg branches off.

More recent commemorative culture is also visible: the monument to Lajos Kossuth was erected in 1994. Kossuth visited Trhová Hradská in 1848, when he recruited soldiers there. The fire station was built in the centre of Trhová Hradská in 1960; the first local fire brigade association had already been founded in 1892 with 30 members. During the interwar period, the village also had a brass band.

Music and inherited traditions

The Vásárúti Dalárda plays a special role. The choir was founded in January 2007 and preserves folk songs passed down by earlier generations in the Csallóköz region. The Vásárúti Dalárda performs at around 25 events per year on average, traditionally including the local strudel festival. A performance at the Advent concert in the village church is also among the occasions mentioned.

The historical significance of the village goes back further: in 1752, Vásárút was granted the title “roľnícke mesto” and the right to hold fairs. The livestock markets of the 19th century were widely known throughout the surrounding area. In this way, the nature reserve, cycle routes, religious buildings and inherited culture combine to create a diverse picture of the village.
