Historical traces at the village square

The former buildings of the Pálffy Estate are located at the western corner of the village square. Their single-storey layout has a U-shaped floor plan and displays features of agricultural buildings from the second half of the 19th century. The first Slovak school on Žitný ostrov was housed in the east wing. The estate therefore represents not only agricultural architecture, but also a chapter in the region's educational history.

The monument to Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, dating from 1971, stands in the park at the village square. It was created by academic sculptor Tibor Baník and academic architect R. Janák. Opposite the park stands a tall bell tower with an iron structure. Its bell was hung on 9 April 1934, while the bell tower was consecrated in September 2007. The different dates show that older and newer elements of the village's history belong together here without having the same historical origin.

Other architectural landmarks include the “Jubilejná škola 1928”. The single-storey functionalist building was constructed in 1928–1929 and has an L-shaped floor plan. In Podháj, the large Wiener-Welten stable is also a distinctive local building. The stable was a cowshed with a milk room and an ice cellar next to the side entrance. These details preserve the agricultural dimension of the place rather than reducing it to a decorative backdrop.

Park, landscape and public spaces

The Vodozádržný Park Hviezdoslavov complements the historic buildings with a landscaped outdoor space. The park includes a fountain, garden features, street furniture and a water-bound footpath. It is intended as a communal space for residents to meet, play and cool off, especially during periods of summer heat. As a green oasis in Hviezdoslavov, the park adds an open space with its own function to the villagescape.

Hviezdoslavov lies in the lowlands of the western Žitný ostrov and has fertile chernozem soils. This landscape provides the geographical backdrop for the historic estate buildings and the agricultural traces of the village. Another documented public space is the Športový areál Bez bariér. The sports facility is located in the Pažiť locality in the immediate vicinity of the new primary school. It adds a contemporary public-use area to the picture of Hviezdoslavov.

Hviezdoslavov as a destination

In Hviezdoslavov, the village square, architectural history, parkland and lowland landscape come together. The former buildings of the Pálffy Estate, the school, the bell tower and the Wiener-Welten stable do not tell the same story: they refer to the estate, education, a religiously influenced villagescape and agriculture. The park and sports facility complement this historic setting with present-day public spaces. The individual landmarks remain distinct while forming a culturally oriented place in the Slovak lowland landscape, without merging into a single attraction.
