Višňové – Čachtický Castle, Nature and Trails

Višňové combines natural surroundings, castle ruins and historic trails into a destination with several distinct experiences. The main attractions are Čachtický Castle between Čachtice and Višňové, the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and routes that make the area accessible on foot, by train or by bicycle. You can therefore choose between a moderately difficult route with a steep ascent, cultural and historical traces, and a cycling tour leading through river valleys.

Nature between the Protected Landscape Area, Reserve and River

Since its designation in 1976, the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area has extended into the cadastral territory of Višňové. The Čachtický hradný vrch National Nature Reserve forms a particularly protected natural area. It was designated in 1964 on an area of 13.7 ha and protects a rocky forest-steppe habitat with rare flora and fauna, especially insects. The Jablonka River, also known as the Dudváh, flows through Višňové and adds a waterway directly connected with the village to the character of the landscape.

The Chodník R. Drozda is an option for an active outing. The route is moderately difficult and includes a steep ascent to Drapliak. Another access route leads through Višňové to Čachtický Castle. Those who would like to experience nature by more than just walking can consider cycling route 022: it follows an asphalt road to Višňové and then continues through the Višňovská dolina towards Čachtice. Along the way, there are beautiful views of Čachtický Castle. Route No. 1 is also part of the Kopaničiarska cycling highway.

Čachtický Castle and the History of Višňové

Čachtický Castle is a picturesque castle ruin between Čachtice and Višňové and offers beautiful panoramic views. From Višňové railway station, a green-marked walking trail with a steep ascent leads to Čachtický Castle in approximately 45 minutes. The approximate time indication and the ascent described make this route a distinct option compared with the other routes through the area.

Historical details can also be found in the village itself. Construction of the Višňové bell tower began in 1899. The structure was built from stone quarried locally; the lime used for its construction was burned from local limestone below Strání. The history of Višňové also includes crafts from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic: the home production of straw baskets and the weaving of linen and hemp cloth.

Routes and Features of the Surrounding Area

Railway line Z.121 connects Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Stará Turá. It was completed with a tunnel in 1929. Route 17 from Nové Mesto nad Váhom via Višňové and Čachtický Castle to Hrachovište can be used with public rail transport. In addition to walking and cycling trails, this provides a historic railway connection relevant to getting around Višňové and its surroundings.

A cave discovered only recently in Višňové is not yet open to the public. It is therefore one of the village's distinctive features that cannot be planned as a regular visitor destination.
