Trenčianske Bohuslavice combines archaeological traces from widely separated periods with a Rococo chapel and a nature reserve north of the village. Cultural history and nature offer different ways to focus your visit: you can put prehistory, 18th-century art or the warmth-loving grassland flora of Hájnica at the center.

Archaeological traces from two periods

The Paleolithic archaeological site lies on a low loess terrace above the Bošáčka stream, at the site of a former brickyard. Archaeological investigations documented a dwelling hut there, with a posthole and hearth. A mammoth hunter lived at the site in the Upper Paleolithic; the tools are attributed to the Gravettian and the period 32,000–23,000 BC. Evidence of a dwelling site thus sits alongside the cultural and chronological classification of the tools.

Another archaeological link leads back to the Bronze Age: a hoard was discovered below Turecko in 1904. It comprised 95 items with a total weight of 4.88 kilograms. The contrast with the Upper Paleolithic dwelling site is clear: the hoard belongs to a much later period and provides a distinct archaeological point of reference.

The Rococo chapel

The chapel “Kaplnka Nepoškvrneného počatia Panny Márie” was built in 1760–1763 as part of a manor house. Its Rococo frescoes by Franz Anton Maulbertsch date from 1763. The construction period and artistic decoration provide specific points of reference for the cultural theme: architecture and painting can be considered together in relation to the second half of the 18th century. In contrast to the prehistoric traces, the focus here is on a building and its wall paintings.

Hájnica and routes through the landscape

The southern slopes of the Hájnica ridge north of Trenčianske Bohuslavice form the nature reserve of the same name. Grassland and warmth-loving flora, along with the relatively frequent occurrence of spring pheasant’s-eye, give this nature theme a specific botanical focus. The focus is therefore not just on the ridge, but also on its plant life.

Cycling and hiking routes are also available. A cycling route along the Naprieč Považským Inovcom long-distance cycle route leads to Trenčianske Bohuslavice and passes the rare chapel there. Check the current signage and surface condition before setting out. Hiking trail 5141 starts at Trenčianske Bohuslavice railway station; check trail conditions and markings before your hike. The chapel is the stated point of reference along the cycling route, while the hiking trail starts at the railway station.

A regional culinary tradition

The wider region includes the Bošácka Valley, which is associated with the tradition of Bošáca plum brandy. This adds a regional culinary tradition to the archaeological, artistic and botanical themes.
