Udiča between the Marikovská Valley and the Nosice Reservoir

Udiča forms the entrance to the Marikovská Valley, combining a clearly defined landscape setting with notable natural and cultural features. The Nosice Reservoir borders the southern edge of the municipality. Udiča is therefore particularly interesting for travel planning if you would like to consider natural landscapes, cycling and regional history together in one place.

Klapy: rocky ridge, summit and protected landscape

The Klapy Nature Reserve defines the landscape character of Udiča. It is a distinctive rocky ridge landscape with thermophilic vegetation; it includes the 653-metre-high Klapov summit. Within the cadastral area of Udiča, the protected area covers approximately 6.2 hectares and is subject to the fifth level of protection. The stated size is approximate and does not describe the extent of a larger recreational area.

Another distinctive feature lies on the southeastern side of the rock: the small fissure cave “Cigánka” is located there. Together with the rocky ridge, vegetation and summit, it creates a natural theme that is much more specific than a general description of a viewpoint. The name Klapy thus refers both to a protected landscape and to individual geological and topographical features.

Two cycling routes with clearly different profiles

For cycling travellers, the reviewed routes document two different options. The “2307 – Udiča – Podvažie” cycling route is 45 kilometres long and designated as a challenging MTB route. Its sections run on asphalt and paved roads. The starting point is in Udiča at a junction with the Vážska cyklomagistrála. Those looking for a longer and explicitly challenging route will therefore find a different profile here than on the green “5312 – Jasenica – Udiča” cycling route.

This second route begins in the centre of Udiča and is described as an easy recreational MTB route for all age groups.

Church and historical traces

A notable cultural landmark in the village is the present-day Church of Saint Matthew. It was built in 1783 after the previous church had fallen into disrepair and was solemnly consecrated on 22 June 1788. In the Central List of the Monument Fund of the Slovak Republic, the church is registered under number 779/0. Its history thus combines the date of construction, consecration and documented monument status.

The area of former Veľká Udiča also broadens the historical perspective. Historically, Veľká Udiča belonged to the parish of Udiča as a filial parish. Fragments dating from the Migration Period were found on Klape Mountain in this area. A sandstone mould for casting bronze spirals was also discovered there. Both finds belong to the area's recorded past and should not be understood as current facilities or services.

Regional everyday and craft culture also includes a glove-making piece woven on a wooden form from Veľká Udiča, documented in the Slovak Encyclopaedia of Traditional Folk Culture. The cultural profile thus extends from the church and parish history to archaeological finds and traditional craftsmanship.
