Discover Partizánske

Partizánske combines industrial history, modern architecture, thermal traditions and protected nature within a compact thematic area. If you are looking for accommodation in the city, you will encounter a destination whose character is shaped in particular by the history of the Baťa colony, distinctive cultural monuments and the landscape in the Veľké Bielice district.

Baťa History and Distinctive Buildings

Červená ulica preserves the original residential buildings of the Baťa colony. Characteristic features include houses with unplastered brick walls and flat roofs. A clearly visible reference to the city’s footwear history is provided by Kvetinová topánka, a two-metre-high sculpture made of living flowers. It recalls the former importance of Partizánske as Slovakia’s footwear metropolis.

Among the notable cultural monuments is Vodný hrad in Šimonovany in Partizánske. It is one of the oldest surviving Gothic-Renaissance noble residences in Slovakia in the category of country castles. Vodný hrad and its park are listed as national cultural monuments. The building was opened to the public in May 2016. This makes it possible to connect historical architecture with the city’s history at this location without losing sight of Partizánske’s industrial development.

Museum, Church and Cultural Orientation

Mestské Múzeum Partizánske organises exhibitions, discussion events and lectures. It is a five-minute walk from the city centre, making it a clearly located cultural stop within the city. The Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho church was built from 1943 to 1949 in the Functionalist style under the direction of Zlín architect Vladimír Karfík. It has been a national cultural monument since 1995.

Inside is a monumental marble cross with a statue of Christ by Tibor Bártfay. The church is one of the most significant religious buildings of modern architecture in Slovakia. The cultural calendar also includes the Májový kultúrny festival and Kultúrne leto v Partizánskom; both are among the traditional events in Partizánske.

Wetland, Thermal Waters and Observatory

The Bielické bahná nature area is located in the Veľké Bielice district. It covers 2.87 hectares and is subject to third-degree area protection. Bielické bahná is a peatland biotope on a peat base with a warm mineral spring and several small ponds fed by thermal water. The area has been designated a site of European importance and provides a habitat for a variety of bird species as well as rare wetland plants, including the critically endangered species marica pílkatá.

A different attraction can be found at Termálne kúpele Malé Bielice, where thermal mineral water emerges at a temperature of 43 °C and is used for regeneration and relaxation. The Aquacentrum Termály Malé Bielice has six pools, including two indoor pools—one relaxation pool and one hydromassage pool—as well as four heated outdoor relaxation pools. The observatory in Partizánske is also located in Malé Bielice. It was opened to the public at the end of August 1988.

Active Routes and Destinations in the Wider Area

For cyclists, the Baťove traily offer mountain biking trails in forests that can be reached directly from Partizánske. The trails include different levels of difficulty and feature technical sections, tight turns and jumps. In the wider regional surroundings of Partizánske lies Brodziansky kaštieľ, a sight surrounded by an English park.
