Malé Ludince: Vineyards, Church and Cycling Route

Malé Ludince combines a village history shaped by the past with vineyards, orchards and a landscape at the western foothills of the Ipeľská pahorkatina. The municipality lies in the Hron valley. Its territory is predominantly flat to hilly and largely deforested; acacia groves grow only on the steeper slopes of the hilly landscape. Open areas and the acacia groves found only on steeper slopes create a visible contrast. History and Reformed Church

The history of the village goes back a long way. Archaeological finds attest to an Eneolithic settlement with fluted pottery in Malé Ludince. Malé Ludince was first mentioned in writing in 1255. Archaeological traces and the first written mention thus stand side by side. Another historical layer is represented by the Reformed Church. It has a Baroque masonry pulpit from 1780 and painted wooden Protestant galleries from 1894, which were restored in 1904.

The furnishings thus bring together several historical periods within the same church. The Reformed congregation in Malé Ludince remains active, preserves traditions and supports young people. The church and the adjacent square serve as venues for village events. The church therefore represents not only individual historical architectural elements, but also the enduring communal character of the place.

Vineyards, Orchards and Cycling

Malé Ludince belongs to the Nitrianska vinohradnícka oblasť wine-growing region and, more specifically, to the Želiezovský vinohradnícky rajón district. The Želiezovský vinohradnícky rajón is the more specific regional classification within the aforementioned wine-growing region. Vineyards cover 70.16 hectares of the municipality’s territory; six active winegrowers operate in Malé Ludince. Large orchards, vineyards and wine cellars characterize the appearance of the municipality. Wine cellars in the vineyards serve wine to travelers passing through and make the local wine industry visible in the landscape as well.

A section of the Pohronská cyklomagistrála runs through Malé Ludince. Next to the church stands a wooden rest pavilion with benches for cyclists. The route and this rest area connect the village center with the theme of cycling, without allowing any specific route length or fixed tour itinerary to be inferred.

Events and Travel Connections

The regular Municipality Day takes place on the first Saturday in July. A clearly dated example is the 18th Szikince Festival, held in 2024 in Zalaba, Malé Ludince, Sikenička and Pavlová. The program included cultural, artistic and sporting activities, talks about the EU for all age groups, an exhibition of historical toys, an educational beekeeping workshop and craft activities for children. The festival thus combined culture, sport, information and practical hands-on activities.
