Landscape along the Radošinka and Nitra

Lužianky lies on the edge of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina at an elevation of 140 to 190 metres. The Radošinka flows through the village and joins the Nitra there. These two rivers are also part of the designated ecological structure of the area: the Nitra is designated as a biocorridor of supra-regional importance, while the Radošinka is a biocorridor of regional importance. Here, the term describes a defined landscape function, not automatically a specific leisure activity or an accessible nature trail.

Archaeological traces spanning many eras

Lužianky is an important archaeological site. The finds include evidence of the Linear Pottery culture, the Želiezovce group and the early Lengyel culture. The area was settled in successive archaeological periods, and its documented history extends to Great Moravian burial grounds. Of particular importance is the prehistoric settlement in the parts of the village known as “Korytovská” and “Korytovská za vodou”. It is considered the most important recorded archaeological site in the territory of Lužianky. The focus of the village therefore lies not only on a single historical period, but on a long sequence of human settlement.

Church and local architectural history

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is part of the local cultural history. It was completed in 1938 and consecrated on 18 March 1939. Inside is a carved altar created by Austrian masters. The dimensions also make the building easy to place in context: the church is 22 metres long, 9 metres wide and 9 metres high; the tower reaches a height of 32 metres. For travellers interested in regional history, this combines a precisely dated sacred building with a remarkable handcrafted furnishing detail.

Village culture, cuisine and equestrian sports

Another historical point of reference is Lužianky railway station. It was opened in May 1881 on the Nové Zámky–Topoľčany line and renamed from Zbehy to Lužianky on 3 October 1948. Local event culture ranges from culinary competitions to presentations of Slovak village traditions. “Lužiansky KOTLÍK” is a goulash-cooking competition held in Lužianky. On 10 November 2024, the cultural event “ROK NA DEDINE” was also held for the 11th time. It included presentations of carnival festivities, spinning gatherings, the bridal head-dressing ritual, grape harvest and baptisms.

For those interested in riding, Horse Club Nitra is located in Lužianky, Korytovská 20. The riding school caters to beginners and experienced riders and offers training in dressage and show jumping. Experienced riders can also go on rides in the surrounding area. Another scheduled event, the “Lužiansky pohodový beh”, is to take place on 26 September 2026 from 14:00 in the grounds of Chata Berbecíny.
