Lužany – archaeological traces and rural landscape

Archaeological sites of the Early Neolithic culture are located in Lužany. The settlements in Lužany are referred to as the “Lužianska skupina”. More than 50 houses are characteristic of these settlements. The archaeological site in Lužany was inhabited at approximately 2000 BC.

Further evidence dates back to the Bronze Age. A skeletal burial ground of the Nitrian Culture from the Early Bronze Age has been archaeologically documented in the territory of the present-day municipality of Lužany. The history of the place therefore cannot be reduced to a single historical date: both Early Neolithic settlements and Bronze Age burial sites have been documented in Lužany. Lužany is listed as an archaeological site in the tourism potential of the Topoľčany District.

Church and village landscape

The dominant landmark of Lužany is the church “Kostol Narodenia Panny Márie”. Its patronal feast is the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
