Nemečky between the valley, forest and reservoir

Nemečky lies below the eastern slopes and foothills of the Považský Inovec in a relatively deep valley formed by the Chocina stream, which runs on both sides of the village. Distinctive wooded ridges of the Považský Inovec's side foothills surround the village. A Neolithic vessel dating from 4000 to 2000 BC was found in the Luknišová area near Nemečky.

Archaeological traces and local monuments

Remains of a settlement dating from around the 3rd millennium BC were discovered in the Nemečky area, including pottery fragments from the Potiská culture. Pottery fragments from the Early Eneolithic were also found at the Lány site near Luknišová; they are attributed to the so-called Ludanice group. The Eneolithic denotes a prehistoric period between the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. Those interested in Slovakia's early settlement traces will therefore find several specific indications here of the long-standing use of this landscape.

You can also encounter smaller, historically significant features in the village itself. The municipal bell tower houses a bell dating from 1864. Nemečky is also home to a stone statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child from 1714. The Chapel of Sedembolestná Panna Mária is one of Nemečky's religious cultural monuments. There is also a wooden cross that has stood there since time immemorial. Nearby, at a forest-track junction, is the devotional image Obrázok. In the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous believers travelling to pilgrimage sites in the Považie region stopped there.

Nemečky Reservoir and nature experiences

The Nemečky Reservoir is the village's second main attraction. It is used for fishing and visited by many anglers every year. The area around the reservoir is also suitable for boating. Since 2002, the Ľadové medvede have regularly met there to ceremonially open the bathing season for winter swimmers. Brown hares, wild rabbits, European ground squirrels, stoats and red foxes live along the forest edges around Nemečky.

Nature trail, cycle path and access to the water

For active days, the Považský Inovec nature trail passes through Nemečky. It is self-guided, with texts and graphics accompanying the route. It can be walked year-round and is laid out as a linear trail, not a loop. Including the municipal branches, it is approximately 60 km long. This is therefore not a short circular walk, but an extensive network of trails with one section passing through Nemečky. In addition, the blue Duchonka Cycle Route 2101 runs around the Nemečky Reservoir.
