Alekšince combines a gently varied cultural landscape with unusually diverse traces of history. Between flat, deforested ridges, broad valleys and depressions, intensive agriculture shapes the appearance of the area. At the same time, museums, religious buildings, events and regional traditions offer far more than a purely landscape-based experience. Landscape, Water and Rural Character

The Andač stream flows through the centre of Alekšince and joins the Radošinka River. Together with the fishponds, it is one of the defining natural features of the area. The ponds are used for recreation and fishing. The cynological grounds in a peaceful setting offer another insight into the rural character of the area. Various cultural and sporting events take place there every year, including dog-sport competitions and goulash-cooking contests.

The grounds have a covered firepit with seating for 60 people, toilets with a shower, a kitchen, a terrace and a dance floor. They are therefore associated not only with dog sports, but also with events involving communal dining, culture and community life. Their facilities make the competitions and festivals documented there recognisable as an independent part of the local events calendar.

Slavic Heritage at Slovanský Dvor Slavica

One particular cultural focal point is Slovanský Dvor Slavica. The complex has the character of a museum in the form of a traditional farmstead and is dedicated to presenting folk culture. It hosts exhibitions, concerts, art competitions, commemorative days, celebrations of original festivals, as well as educational conferences and seminars. The events are accessible to people with disabilities and wheelchair users; the grounds are barrier-free, and the Pribinova Dvorana has a universal ramp.

At VIEROSLAVÍN, you can see a wooden copy of the Zbruch Idol. Ceramic reliefs of Slavic deities are also exhibited there: LADA, ŽIVA, MAKOŠ, VELES, PERÚN and SVAROG. The reliefs were created by local artist Juliana Hadvigová. Slovanský Dvor Slavica also features a bronze bust of Alfons Mucha, considered the only one of its kind in Slovakia. These individual works give the visit a clearly recognisable Slavic and regional profile without limiting the complex to a single historical period.

From the Early Stone Age to Kostol sv. Anny Church

The history of the area dates back to the Early Stone Age. Archaeological finds provide evidence of settlement in Alekšince as early as that period. They include a blade scraper made of limnoquartzite, produced more than 20,000 years ago. A later testimony to the history of the area is Kostol sv. Anny Church. It originated as a Classicist chapel built in 1802, was extended by a side nave in 1939 and received a vestibule in 1959.

The church's main altar dates from 1802 and includes a Calvary group. The church is considered well preserved and continues to serve its religious purpose. The village also has a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the second half of the 18th century. Alekšince's Christian tradition also includes a Budičkový procession, which passes through a different part of the village each time.

Events and Regional Cuisine

The events calendar ranges from culture and education to family-oriented activities. The second edition of VYKROJ SA NA DVOR took place on 6 June 2026 at Slovanský Dvor Slavica in Alekšince. The programme included a treasure hunt for children connected with Slavic history and cultural heritage. This example shows how historical themes were incorporated into a specific event there.

Regional cuisine also features in local festivals. Alekšinský kotlík is a recurring goulash-cooking competition in Alekšince; in 2025, the municipality announced its tenth edition. Visitors who do not take part in the competition can sample goulash prepared by local hunters. The traditional men's clothing of Alekšince is another part of the local cultural heritage: it included hemp shirts with wide, embroidered sleeves, whose embroidery was white, yellow, black and red.

The Nitra–Hlohovec railway line runs through Alekšince and began operation in 1898. To visit Slovanský Dvor Slavica, an appointment can be arranged by telephone at 0915 109 205.
