Ľudovítová

Ľudovítová combines its location on the Nitra with clearly distinguishable reasons to visit: water and fishing, local architectural history, archaeological traces and a short cycle tour. The municipality is therefore suitable for you if, while travelling in Slovakia, you would like to get to know a place with a river landscape and small cultural attractions.

Landscape on the Nitra

Ľudovítová lies in the southeastern part of the Nitrianska loess upland, on a small elevation on the right bank of the Nitra. The municipal territory covers just under 188 ha and extends on both sides of the river. This location shapes the spatial character of the place, without reducing the municipality to a single landscape impression.

The fishponds of Ľudovítová are among the notable water-related places. They were created by separating and artificially damming former arms of the Nitra. Today they are considered a popular place for anglers and also serve a recreational function. If you would like to fish, the Ľudovítová Municipal Office issues fishing permits immediately upon oral request. This documents a specific local connection to fishing, without implying any further conditions or services.

For activities on site, plot no. 198 has a multifunctional sports field with artificial turf, fencing and boards for ball games. The facility is complemented by a children's playground. Both facilities serve the activities of residents and visitors and thus form another clearly identified feature of the place.

Chapel, manor house and local history

A cultural highlight is the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. The Baroque chapel was built in 1773. Its rectangular floor plan, semicircular apse and roof turret give the building a clearly recognisable architectural form. On 13 June, the feast day of Saint Anthony, solemn services and the local church festival are held in Ľudovítová.

The manor house is also part of the history of the place. It dates from the 18th century and initially belonged to the Nyárki family, and later, until 1950, to the Ghylányi family. A park of just under 2 ha, with trees from Europe and overseas, stretched around the manor house.

At Torokmezo, also called Turecké pole, a Turkish Cross stands on the boundary between Ľudovítová and Výčapy-Opatovce. It commemorates the defeat of the Turks. Thus, alongside the sacred architecture and the manor house, there is another historical point of reference in the municipality's surroundings.

Archaeological traces and cycle tour

The Telkek archaeological site lies on a rise in the terrain 250 metres south of the cemetery chapel. Excavations there uncovered several pottery fragments from the Neolithic and Eneolithic Maďarovce culture. This provides you with access to a considerably older settlement history, distinct from the buildings of the 18th century.

Short cycle tour 5114 leads from Podhorany via Mechenice to Ľudovítová, where it ends after 3.5 km.
