Hybe combines a clearly recognisable historic town centre with opportunities for winter sports, hiking and cycling. The rural heritage zone preserves historical, social, landscape, urban-planning, architectural and craft values. At the same time, the entire historic town centre is designated as a heritage zone. The history of the town dates back to the 13th century. Hybe was established at that time as a royal town in the valley of the Hybica stream, at a crossroads of the trade routes from Liptov to Spiš. The Hybica stream and its tributary continue to shape the surroundings of the heritage zone. The regular layout follows a colonisation structure along the stream: streets lead away from the corners of the rectangular square. This arrangement gives the town centre an easy-to-understand form that you can recognise while walking around the square and through the adjacent streets.

Churches, memorial houses and places of remembrance

Hybe’s square is home to the Roman Catholic Church of All Saints, a defining sacred building in a central location. The Evangelical church is situated northeast of the square and was built on the site of a wooden artikular church. The square also features a statue of Pacho, the robber of Hybe, next to the main road.

Several places of remembrance complement the protected historic building stock. The Dobroslav Chrobák Memorial House is included in the heritage register of Hybe. The Jakub Grajchman Poet’s Memorial House with a commemorative plaque is registered as a heritage monument in Hybe, as is the grave of Jakub Grajchman with its tombstone. The Alojz Štróbl Memorial House is registered as a cultural monument. These places make different parts of the local cultural and commemorative history visible, without their registration in itself constituting a statement about current opening hours or visitor facilities.

Ski lift, cross-country ski trails and paths through the landscape

In winter, Hybe offers a ski lift for winter sports and certified cross-country ski trails. This gives you two clearly distinct forms of winter sports in the town: the ski lift on the one hand and designated cross-country ski trails on the other. The information refers to the facilities available, not to specific snow conditions or a guaranteed operating period.

Hybe also has a named starting point for hiking tourism: Hybská tiesňava is one of the opportunities for hikes in the town. For cyclists, the green cycling route to the Čierny Váh reservoir begins at the municipality of Hybe. The route between Hybe and the reservoir is suitable for MTB bikes and runs along paved, forest and asphalt roads.
