Muránska Dlhá Lúka combines historic churches with protected landscapes and a variety of opportunities for spending time outdoors. If you are looking for a place for your trip to Slovakia that offers culture, walking trails, a connection with nature and winter activities, you will find several clearly distinct points of interest here. The sights are not concentrated in a single themed complex: the churches, river landscape, Hôrka, ranch and ski lifts each contribute to the character of the village in their own way.

Historic Churches in the Village Landscape

One important building is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. It was built in the Gothic style in the 14th century and remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18th century. It is also listed as a national cultural monument. This means that two historical periods of design can be encountered in a single ecclesiastical building, without its earlier origins having been erased by the later remodelling.

Another distinctive church is the Evangelical Church of Muránska Dlhá Lúka. It is a Classicist toleration church dating from 1787; its tower was completed in 1863. The church stands in the central part of the village, is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. Its location makes it an easily identifiable part of the village landscape, while its construction date and the history of its tower reveal a different historical thread from the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.

River and Protected Landscape

The Muráň River flows along the edge of Muránska Dlhá Lúka. The municipality also contains the protected zone of Muránska planina National Park, where the second level of protection applies. For your choice of destination, this means there is a clearly documented connection with the landscape that extends beyond individual sights.

The natural area also includes the Alúvium Muráňa Natura 2000 site, which covers approximately 11.5 hectares within the municipality. The site is connected with the Muráň River and its main tributaries, from their sources to their confluence with the Slaná. This specific relationship between the protected area and the river system gives the landscape its own thematic framework.

Hiking, Horseback Riding and Winter Activities

There are hiking trails on Hôrka above Muránska Dlhá Lúka. They provide opportunities for walks, experiences in nature and views of the surrounding area. If you do not want to limit your stay exclusively to cultural activities, this area offers an independent way to experience the landscape on foot.

A ranch with horses in Muránska Dlhá Lúka offers interested visitors horseback rides into the surrounding countryside. This complements the hiking trails with another way to experience the area. In winter, Muránska Dlhá Lúka has ski lifts measuring 450 m and 300 m, as well as a children's lift. The local ski lifts are artificially lit and can also be used in the evening when snow and weather conditions are favourable. The outdoor options therefore differ clearly according to season and activity: walks and views on Hôrka, horseback rides in nature, and skiing with lifts of different lengths, including an option for children.
