Trnávka brings together two specific themes for travel planning: a history of buildings and remembrance that can be traced through its chapels and monuments, and two main cycling routes that pass through the municipality. The historical dates range from the construction of a chapel between 1848 and 1850 to an addition to a war memorial in the 1960s. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore consider whether cultural history or cycling is more important to your trip.

Chapels and Architectural History

The chapel in Trnávka stands in the northwestern part of the municipality and was built in the Late Classicist style between 1848 and 1850. It was enlarged and a tower was added in 1902, at the instigation of Antal Németh and his wife Julianna, née Tóth. This makes it possible to distinguish between an original building phase and a later expansion with a clearly documented date. The style identifies the chapel’s architectural character, while the dates make its changes tangible. If you are interested in the development of a specific building, you can look at the construction period and the expansion separately; both are part of the history of the same chapel.

On 2 November 1937, the chapel in Trnávka cemetery was consecrated. The exact date of consecration offers an additional point of reference for travellers interested in the religious history of the village.

Monuments and Religious Imagery

The statue of the heroes beside the church was erected in 1921 in memory of the victims of the First World War. In the 1960s, a list of those killed in the Second World War was added. The same monument thus brings together its original purpose as a memorial and an addition made decades later. In 1936, Antal Németh and his wife Karolina Csémy had a large cross erected in the cemetery. The village’s history therefore features two distinct forms side by side: a war memorial with a later addition and a large cross in the cemetery.

The statue of the Holy Trinity was erected in 1863 at the crossroads between Báč, Rohovce and Trnávka. It depicts Saint Emeric, Saint Florian and the Holy Trinity itself. The monument’s location and figures make it readable on two levels: as a religious statue at a crossroads between three places, and as a depiction featuring two named saints and the Holy Trinity. If you are interested in religious imagery, the combination of location and figures offers a specific point of reference for understanding the monument.

Cycling Through Trnávka

Cycling is also represented by two main routes. Main Route XI runs from Dobrohošť to Blahová and passes through Trnávka; it is flat and suitable for all types of bicycles. Main Route XII runs from Holice to Oľdza and also passes through Trnávka. For planning purposes, the routes first differ in their endpoints; for Route XI, its flat profile is another selection criterion. You can check which connection between the named places suits your plans and whether Route XI’s suitability for all types of bicycles is relevant to your choice. Check the current route before setting out on a specific ride.
