Trebatice – History, Sports and Local Festivals
Trebatice combines a multifaceted local history with sports and lively community events. The Slovak locality lies at the meeting point of the northern foothills of the Trnava Hills and the Váh branch of the Danubian Lowland, on a terrace of the Dudváh. For your travel planning, this creates a destination where landscapes, archaeology, sacred buildings and active leisure activities come together in a compact local setting.
Trebatice between the Hills and the Lowland
The location on a terrace of the Dudváh precisely defines Trebatice’s landscape setting: this is where the northern foothills of the Trnava Hills and the Váh branch of the Danubian Lowland meet. The local history reaches far back. Archaeological evidence from the Upper Paleolithic includes, among other things, mammoth bones. Remains of a cult structure date from the Late Bronze Age, including fragments of a plastically decorated gable from a building.
Archaeological Traces and Sacred Buildings
Later settlement traces are also part of Trebatice’s character. Settlement finds from the 2nd and 3rd centuries have been discovered in Trebatice. A sacred focal point is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephen the King. It is a Neoclassical church dating from 1851; the main altar and pulpit date from the period when the church was built. This heritage is complemented by the Cemetery Chapel of St. Stephen the King, one of Trebatice’s small sacred monuments.
Sports Venues and the Go-Kart Track
If you would like to include sporting activities in your stay, Trebatice offers several options. Areál zdravia is the locality’s multi-purpose sports and community centre and has been in use since 2007. Another sports facility is Športové centrum Trebatice at Piešťanská 555/12, 922 10 Trebatice. Online reservations are available there; it is open Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 07:00 to 20:00.
The Trebatice go-kart track was built on the site of a former brickworks, which was later used as a municipal landfill. A go-kart rental service is documented at the track. Official kart races of the MSR, the Open Cup and the Moravský pohár also take place there. Alongside the area’s historical connections, this puts a clearly defined motorsport theme at the centre.
Festivals, Cabbage Tradition and Local Events
A distinct local identity is reflected in the cabbage tradition. The inhabitants of Trebatice were mentioned as cabbage growers in 1753 and consequently received the local nickname “kapustári”. At Kapustové hody 2023, a microregion cooking competition for kapustnica was held. This also makes the event interesting for travellers who want to experience regional food culture not only through restaurants but also through community festivals.
At Hody Trebatice, the programme includes traditional fairground rides, refreshment stalls and craft demonstrations alongside musical performances. One edition took place on 15 and 16 August 2025 at AMK; another edition is documented for 2026. The XIV edition of the Memoriál Petra Minárecha in Trebatice is also documented. These events thus complement the historical and sporting themes with recurring local occasions, without this implying a general events calendar for the locality.
