Dvorníky

Dvorníky combines distinctive cultural monuments with protected landscapes, viticulture, a cycle route and an educational trail. The locality can therefore be explored through various travel interests: through the Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross and other monuments, along a cycle route through Dvorníky and an educational trail through the vineyards of Hlohovec, as well as through activities on the Váh. Traditional crafts, as well as the combination of viticulture, wine tasting and an autumn festival, are also part of Dvorníky’s character.

Culture between Church, Monument and Craft

The single-nave Baroque-Classical Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross stands at the centre of the locality’s history. It was built in 1788 on the site of an earlier church that was already mentioned in 1559. The history of the religious building thus reaches back several centuries, while the present structure clearly dates to the late 18th century.

Other cultural monuments in Dvorníky include a barn dating from 1761. It has a separate cellar built into the hillside and was declared a national cultural monument in 2021. Hrádok, a motte dating from the 13th to 14th century and also a national cultural monument, is located in Posádka. The local collection of monuments also includes a roadside statue of Saint Vendelín from the 19th century and a bell tower from the 1870s in Posádka.

Traditional folk crafts in Dvorníky include dolls and nativity scenes made from corn husks. Easter eggs are also decorated with glued-on straw ornaments. These forms of craftsmanship complement the historic buildings with a vibrant artisanal side of the locality.

Cycling and Hiking Trails through the Vineyards

If you are looking for an easy paved recreational cycle route, the green cycle route 5212 Hlohovec–Sereď runs through Dvorníky. The route is 20.8 km long. Its classification as an easy route and its paved surface distinguish it from longer or more nature-oriented paths.

The educational trail through the vineyards of Hlohovec offers a different perspective. It is 22.3 km long, self-guided, open year-round and accessible in both directions. The trail passes through Dvorníky and Posádka and has seven stations. In terms of content, it focuses on viticulture and history. You can therefore view the route not only as a hiking trail, but also as a link between the themes of viticulture and local history.

Dubník and the Váh

The Dubník National Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral area of Dvorníky. It covers 165.19 ha and is protected under protection level 4. Protected features include a rare and isolated remnant of a natural forest community, an ornithological locality of the Eurasian scops owl (Otus scops), and protected plant species.

Various recreational activities are associated with the surroundings of the Váh and the remaining floodplain forests in the Dvorníky area. These include camping in nature and river trips on the Váh. There are also some opportunities for hiking and cycling. Which of these activities takes centre stage therefore depends on whether you prefer a route through vineyards, an activity on the river or nature-oriented landscapes.

Viticulture and Autumn Specialities

Viticulture has a centuries-old tradition in Dvorníky. The municipal coat of arms also reflects this connection with a hoe, a grape and a pruning knife. A seasonal highlight is the wine tasting with a feast held every autumn in Dvorníky. At the autumn festival, burčiak, goose meat and mould-ripened cheese are consumed. Viticulture thus emerges not only as a theme of the educational trail, but also in connection with local festive and culinary traditions.
