Koplotovce – Thermal Spring, River Terraces and Culture
Koplotovce combines a distinctive river landscape with thermal water, nature observation and historical traces. The village is situated on the left-bank river terraces of the Váh, which border the southern slopes of the Považský Inovec. Thermophilous oak forests grow in the northern part. Koplotovce thus presents, within a compact thematic area, the contrast between river terraces, wooded slopes, protected habitats and a long local history.
Thermal Spring and Sedavá fontána
Koplotovce has a sulphur- and gypsum-bearing thermal spring. The Sedavá fontána bath in Koplotovce began operating on 1 June 2019 and uses local thermal water with a temperature of 25°C. The Sedavá fontána complex includes a buffet offering refreshments. Those who focus on thermal water and a wellness-oriented stay when choosing accommodation will find a clearly identifiable local focus here, without any further accommodation features having to be assumed.
River Landscape, Cycle Paths and Nature
The Leopoldov–Červeník–Madunice–Koplotovce–Drahovce cycle-path project includes a 0.720 km-long section of cycle path in the cadastral territory of Koplotovce. The project connects Madunice and Koplotovce with a bridge over the Váh between the two cadastral territories. In addition, a cycle path along the Váh, measuring 5.7 km in total, was extended towards Koplotovce in 2010.
The natural landscape includes protected orchids, summer pheasant's eye (Adonis aestivalis) and the priority habitat of European interest *6210/Tr1.1, which occur in the cadastral territory of Koplotovce. The breeding of European bee-eaters was also documented near Koplotovce in a typical sandy escarpment. After the bee-eaters had departed, 20 occupied nesting burrows were counted in Koplotovce. The Štrkovisko Koplotovce fishing water near the municipality of Koplotovce comprises four gravel pits with a total water surface of 2.9 ha. Thus, botanical rarities, a documented bird-breeding site and a clearly designated fishing water stand alongside one another, without any particular accessibility or current use having to be inferred from this.
Historical Traces in Koplotovce
Koplotovce was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zobor Charter. More recent archaeological finds also add to this historical picture: in 1989, a Neolithic fragment of a stone core was recovered at the Za gedru site in Koplotovce. In 1999, a Roman coin minted between 378 and 383 was found during gardening work in Koplotovce.
A distinctive architectural monument is Kaštieľ Kaplath, an original Renaissance fortress. Fortifications have been preserved on its southern side; the building also retains a stone portal and two characteristic round bastions. The Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Koplotovce was built in 1734. It has a Rococo high altar from the late 18th century containing a painting of the Visitation of Mary by F. Werner. Services are held on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings in the filial Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Koplotovce. Eduard and Ambruš Kochanovskí were friends with the poet Ján Hollý.
Additional Cultural Context in Hlohovec
In nearby Hlohovec, the local history museum displays a set of hunting furniture from the Koplotov estate. Its archaeological exhibition presents finds from Hlohovec and the surrounding area dating from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, as well as from the Roman and Slavic settlement periods. A stay in Koplotovce can thus also be expanded to include a nearby museum context bringing together several historical eras.
