Discover Kostolné Kračany

Kostolné Kračany combines the landscape of the Danubian Lowland with a remarkable religious and cultural heritage. The municipality is located in the central part of the Great Rye Island (Žitný ostrov). Church, Monument, and Religious History

The focal point is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew (Kostol sv. Bartolomeja). It was built in 1819–1820 on the site of an older church that had already been mentioned in the 17th century. In 1820, the church was given its present form. György Bartal commissioned the new building in the Classical style with Baroque elements. As an immovable national cultural monument, the church is registered under ÚZPF number 95/1.

Its significance extends beyond the building itself: for many centuries, Kostolné Kračany was the religious center of Kračansko and remains a place of religious life for the inhabitants of all twelve Kračany settlements. In the grounds near the entrance is an apparently preserved stone baptismal font dating from the 13th century. The presumably medieval baptismal font is located near the entrance to the present-day church. The Lurdská jaskyňa, a Lourdes grotto, is also located by the church. A monument at the entrance to the church grounds commemorates those who fell in the Second World War. Above the main altar hangs a 19th-century painting entitled “Ukrižovanie Pána Ježiša” (“The Crucifixion of Jesus”).

Village Scenery and Places of Remembrance

The historic village scenery includes old houses with gabled roofs that are thatched with reeds. The family crypt of the Bossányi family is located in the cemetery area of Amadeho Kračany. The protected Konopiská area is also located in the municipality: it encompasses the cadastral area of Amadeho Kračany, part of the municipality of Kostolné Kračany, and is subject to the fourth level of protection. Thus, in Kostolné Kračany, built heritage and a protected landscape area stand side by side as subjects for observing the locality.

A statue of the academic painter Róbert Almási (1948–2018), who came from the municipality, was erected in front of the municipal office in 2022. Another recurring point of reference is the Obecné dni festival, held in Kostolné Kračany every year in June. It is intended to strengthen solidarity and the identity of the Kračančané and complements the permanently visible historic sites with an event from local community life.

Cycling Through the Danubian Lowland

For active exploration, the marked Baka–Kostolné Kračany cycling route is 12,600 meters long. It is flat and suitable for all types of bicycles. Near Gabčíkovo, this connection joins the International Danube Cycle Route. This makes it possible to combine the history of the locality with a specifically described cycling route without conflating the different characteristics of the route, landscape, and sights.
