Horné Mýto between wetland and village history

Horné Mýto combines a distinctive natural landscape with clearly recognizable traces of local history. The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve extends into the municipality’s cadastral territory. At the same time, the built-up centre contains a protected old English oak, a Calvary complex and a church with Baroque and Neoclassical features. Klátovské rameno: protected lowland river

The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve covers 306.44 hectares. It is considered a representative example of a meandering lowland river and preserves rare aquatic and wetland communities. The landscape is therefore not defined by mountain panoramas or major changes in elevation, but by the characteristic interplay of the river course, wetlands and protected habitats. The term “meandering” describes a river course with pronounced bends.

Protected animal species in the reserve include kingfishers, otters and beavers. A local road bridge crosses Klátovské rameno 1.4 kilometres west of the centre of Horné Mýto towards Ohrady. Road III/1426 passes through the built-up area of the municipality and runs from Jahodná in the north to Trhová Hradská in the south.

Nature trail with information boards and a footbridge

A nature trail was established in the cadastral territories of Horné Mýto and Ohrady. Its information boards focus on the protected fauna and flora of the Klátovské rameno site of European importance. The focus is therefore not only on the landscape itself, but also on its classification as a valuable habitat.

The nature trail includes large information boards and a footbridge over the wetland. During the walk, these stations provide opportunities to sit, relax or have a refreshment. The route thus combines accessible information about nature with sections where you can experience the surroundings at your own pace.

Church, memorial plaque and preserved farmhouses

In the built-up centre of Horné Mýto, a 200-year-old protected English oak stands near the Calvary complex. The church grounds also contain a Lourdes grotto from 1996. The Baroque church itself was built in 1775 and remodelled in the Neoclassical style in the 19th century. A memorial plaque on its rear façade commemorates the revolutionary years of 1848–1849. Its architectural history extends from its construction in the 18th century to its remodelling in the 19th century.

Several local farmhouses have preserved their original architecture. These include houses nos. 77, 108/13 and 122/18. These buildings add an architectural dimension to the view of Horné Mýto that differs from the religious sights and the nature reserve. The local Csemadok women’s singing group is also part of the municipality’s cultural life and regularly performs at important community events.
