Košúty can be explored through several distinct themes: sacred architecture, early settlement history, local singing groups and protected parks. A country restaurant and excursions into the surrounding countryside complete the picture. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between these offerings: the cultural sites represent different historical periods, while singing, food and nature excursions appeal to other interests.

St. Florian’s Church and Sacred Architecture

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Florian was built between 1849 and 1851 on the village square, with the support of Bishop Michal Fekete. Its style is neo-Romanesque. The term refers to an approach based on forms of Romanesque architecture; it describes the architectural classification, not the time of construction.

An image of Saint Florian is preserved in the church. It also houses 14 Stations of the Cross images dating from the early 20th century. The construction date and the collection of images therefore refer to different periods: the church was built in the 19th century, while the Stations of the Cross images are from the following century. Those interested in sacred art can note this distinction between the building’s history and its later furnishings.

In the wider region, the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist is also among the rare types of sacred architecture. While the style and construction date are specified for St. Florian’s Church, the chapel is notable for its rare architectural classification in the region.

Historical Traces in Košúty

The Neolithic settlement represents the earliest settlement of Košúty and offers a much older historical perspective than the dated construction of the church. The Neoclassical manor house, dating from 1898, provides another point of reference. Neoclassical describes an architectural approach based on classical forms; together with the year, it provides a clear indication of the period and style.

The Kiss family mausoleum is located in the Košúty cemetery. It adds a family burial place to the village’s historical landmarks. The settlement, manor house and mausoleum offer different ways to explore the past: from the earliest settlement to a dated building and a specific memorial site.

Two Protected Parks

The park by the playground and the park by the municipal office are designated as protected areas. These are two separate parks, distinguished by their respective landmarks. Protected parkland is therefore part of Košúty’s character, alongside its sacred and historical sites.

Singing, Food and Nature Excursions

Košúty has two named singing groups with different organizational affiliations. GYÖNGYKALÁRIS is a women’s and men’s singing group affiliated with the local Csemadok association. NÁDEJ is the singing group affiliated with the local branch of Matica slovenská. For travelers interested in organized local culture, this distinction makes the two groups easy to tell apart.

A country restaurant serves home-style food and a daily menu. Excursions into the surrounding countryside are also offered for advanced participants. This stated experience level is important when making your plans: if you are considering such an excursion, bear in mind that it is intended for advanced participants. Food and outdoor activities are thus two separate practical options alongside the village’s cultural attractions.

Choose what suits your interests from what Košúty has to offer.
