Pravotice: Park, Landscape and Village Culture

Pravotice between the stream, reservoir and elevated views

Pravotice combines small, distinctive local details with a landscape that opens out towards Jerichov Reservoir and the surrounding mountain ranges. The Pravotický potok flows through the village and joins the Bebrava near Livina, which belongs to the Nitra river basin. At the same time, the cadastral area of Pravotice borders Jerichov Reservoir. The village is therefore defined not only by individual sights, but also by its location between bodies of water, the settlement area and elevated viewpoints.

Park, play areas and distinctive details in the village

For a stay involving a variety of small discoveries, Pravotice Park offers several specific points of interest. A children's playground was built there in 2016. The same public area is also home to a wooden carving of a water sprite. The park also has 35 nesting boxes, made by residents during the educational cultural event Spoznávaj a chráň. The park thus combines play, local design and a visible connection to the world of birds, without requiring you to visit several separate locations.

Other public facilities add to this village setting. A multifunctional sports field and fitness equipment were installed in the area of the football pitch in 2017. The fountain Prameň osvieženia in the centre of Pravotice was also renovated. In front of the municipal office stands a wooden carving of an owl and its owlets. These motifs give the village centre and the communally used areas a distinctive character shaped by local residents.

Church and elevated views of the surroundings

Another prominent place is the church Kostol Nepoškvrneného počatia Panny Márie. The originally Baroque building dates from the 18th century, was remodelled in the 19th century and last structurally altered in 1902. The single-nave church has a slightly rounded chancel, an attached sacristy and a built-in tower. It stands in an elevated position, is in good condition and continues to serve its purpose.

Above the church there are a cemetery and a car park. From there, you can see, among other things, Topoľčany Castle. In 2022, a walnut avenue with an acacia swing was also created above Pravotice, near the church. Access is from the road towards Rybany; from the avenue, there are views of the surrounding Považský Inovec and Tríbeč mountain ranges. This area therefore serves as a distinct landscape feature within a visit to the village, while the church forms its historical focal point.

Local products and recurring events

Pravotice also offers insights into the village's agricultural character. The agricultural production cooperative PD Brezina Pravotice organises an open day every September. During this event, visitors can see the facilities, agricultural machinery and animals. They can also taste and buy meat products. Independently of this, Pravotice has a retail outlet selling meat products from PD Brezina.

The annual events held in Pravotice also include Šarkaniáda. Together with the wooden carvings, the fountain, the park and the communal sports areas, this creates a village setting in which local initiatives and specific public places play a greater role than a long list of major sights.
